I don't want to look like a 16 year old and yet I'm not quite ready for Country Casuals.

Missbopeep · 05/08/2013 23:02

Boden ( only plain items)
The White Company- trousers, dresses, knitwear
Uniqlo- jeans and T shirts
Jigsaw
Few tops etc White Stuff
Mint Velvet
Monsoon ( hardly ever - couple of summer dresses)

cafenoir · 06/08/2013 08:08

Jeans/coloured jeans - Zara, Oasis and occasionally Esprit

Tops/sweaters - Oasis, River Island, Fat Face, Mango, Warehouse

Shoes/Boots - Dune, Schuh, M&S, Charles Clinkard

Coats - TX Maxx

Occasional Posh dress - L K Bennett, Phase 8

Handbags - TX Maxx mostly

Am going to try Uniqlo when next go anywhere where there is a branch.

I'm 53 and default outfit is: skinnies in neutral colours, plain sweatshirts/sweaters/ t shirts/plain fitted shirts, boots, scarf, messy-ish up-do, gel nails and enough make-up to look a)alive and b)smart.

cafenoir · 06/08/2013 08:08

I meant T K Maxx.

Ihatemytoes · 06/08/2013 08:32

Graceparkhill · 06/08/2013 08:48

I like Jigsaw, Phase 8 and Hobbs for work and M&S for casual.

Shanghaidiva · 06/08/2013 08:57

Boden
Zara - tops only as I am not 7 feet tall
Next - jeans
Today I went to Cos and they had some great clothes - lovely colours and all quite plain
Uniqlo - linen trousers
Esprit
Also in m&s today - full and frumpy
Shanghai tang for handbags

Iseeall · 06/08/2013 11:42

Boden
Landsend
Asda
M&S
Debenhams

I think it depends on your size, especially with some of the 'younger' shops that have been mentioned.
I don't tend to shop where my 17yr old does. Skinny jeans and hot pants are not my friend.

Next (their skinny fit jeans approximate to a good straight fit on those of us with no waists and don't bag around the lack of hip too much), Sainsburys (good basic tees), Lands End (good for avoiding basics in unflattering seasonal colours, since they stick to the same palette, constantly). Occasionally M&S and it's almost always regretted because it's all too short and boxy.

Great question!

LNCC
Net-a-porter
(I love the idea of the Outnet but it takes too much time and stress.)
Browns
Cos,
TKMaxx

I hardly ever buy clothes and I love a bargain.

(And although you didn't ask, my mother wears quite a lot of Hemut Lang and Cos.)

cornypepper · 07/08/2013 00:11

I'm trying not to buy clothes at the moment as I'm saving up for something but I'd look in Boden, Mint velvet, baukjen, brora, TK mAXX, White company, celtic sheepskin.

AwkwardSquad · 07/08/2013 07:09

I'm struggling to find much that I like at the moment, but have done quite well in Whistles. Their more casual stuff, rather than the dresses, which always look too boxy on me.

Toast, usually in the sale, but it very much depends what they have each season. The summer stuff this year did not work for me at all.

Gap for Ts and merino cardigans.

Bits and pieces from department stores and small independent shops.

TheChocolateTeapot · 07/08/2013 07:20

Thanks for so many replies - seems I'm in the right kind of place after all, but there are some new names for me to check out!
