Trainers/high tops when going out to clubs

I had a (very) rare night out with a friend a couple of weeks ago. As usual I was wearing high heels, but also, as usual, my feet were in agony after a few dances. A lot of the younger people were wearing little black dresses/cocktail numbers with high tops and trainers. These weren't normal trainers, but gorgeous sequined and sparkly pumps. Is this strictly a young person's look or do you think someone slightly older could pull it off? Or should I not give a hoot and just be glad that I would be able to walk rather than hobble to the taxi home?

Marking place as I want to know this too!

I'm 34, going out with my early 20's workmates soon. torn between not wanting to look like a try-hard old gimmer, and not giving a damn as at least I'll be comfy Grin
