help me choose shoes for my capsule wardrobe

Having been living abroad for nearly 5 years, I'm returning back to the UK and shopping for a new capsule wardrobe. I've only worn flip-flops/sandals for all this time, and need new shoes. Clothes wise, I'm getting things like skinny jeans (blue and grey), some skirts, jersey wrap dress (for ease of bf-ing), some nice tops, and have just got a nice trench coat. Think white-stuff/banana republic/some boden. Colour-wise I'm trying to stick to navy and grey for neutral, and blue/teal/green with the odd orange/coral thrown in.

I'm thinking of getting brown knee high riding boot style boots, black ankle boots, some neutral-coloured flats but I also want one pair of (not too high) heels too. Can I wear heels with skinny jeans? I've seen some gorgeous teal ones here but could I get much wear out of them, or should I just stick with a more neutral colour? If I get coloured (e.g. teal) shoes, can I wear those with coloured clothes either blues or other, or does it look better to keep the rest of the outfit more neutral? I feel a bit out of touch with fashion right now, so appeal to your collective wisdom.

I personally wear coloured shoes with fairly colourful outfits but in all honesty, I'm not the most stylish of people. I myself can't see a problem with wearing teal shoes and say a blue top of some kind though I'm not so sure I'd mix them with orange/coral. It may look fab, it may not. I think if you aren't sure you'd get much wear out of them in the teal, then go for a more neutral colour that you know you'd definitely wear.

I had some teal shoes a couple of years ago that got loads of wear. The colour works with denim and also with a lot of neutrals such as navy, black and grey - more versatile than black IMO.
