Do you ever use those free samples that come in magazines?

And the free trial bottles/tubes of beauty stuff.
I always have good intentions and then end up throwing a shedload away.

If you do use them, when? I am thinking to take what I have on holiday...

If they are not v exciting (shower gel sachet etc) I give them to the dds. But good stuff I save to take on holiday. I especially like the Benefit minis that you occasionally get.

Trills · 04/08/2013 15:57

I only buy magazines for the things on the cover (I got fed up of buying them for the stuff to read because there is hardly anything worth reading in them), but that also means that I only buy ones with stuff that I like the sound of on the cover.

I like makeup best, but Glamour have had some nice Clinique miniatures in the past.

lifesgreatquestions · 04/08/2013 16:46

I used to keep them with the idea of taking them on holiday. But the reality is that I like the things I use normally and never really fancy trying something different on holiday so I just throw them away now unless it's a properly special brand and I'm curious about trying something new.

Life, that is exactly what happens with me!

Mystapler, I have those freebies, and will take them on hol. But will I use them?!

I use them if they look good. Am also enjoying the Elemis Flash Balm and have a few Neals Yard moisturisers about from other mags, too. But I throw out about as many as I keep.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 04/08/2013 18:40

I was tempted by a copy of Harpers ? or something that had a jar of L;Occitane cream.
But when I went to Sainsburys, as usual the free gifts had been ripped out. Angry
They need to move the magazines to full view of the security guard at the door. It happens all the time.

YoungBritishPissArtist · 04/08/2013 18:51

I only buy mags when I want the free thing! So yes, I use them.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/08/2013 19:15

Are there any good ones out this month? I have a long train journey tomorrow, so an excuse for buying a magazine.

talkingnonsense · 04/08/2013 19:19

The glamour lip salve and shower gel were bothe good, if you can still get one.

bigTillyMint · 04/08/2013 19:22

Well I have packed a load of them in my suitcase, so here's hoping!

try the elemis balm, it's really nice, i imagine it would be good for hols though i do sometimes break out with a spot or two when i change brands

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/08/2013 22:08

Yes, the Elemis balm is v nice. As good or better than Beauty Flash Balm.

Corygal · 04/08/2013 22:48

I buy the Glamour Clinique mags in stacks and give the mags away, keeping a clutch of baby mascaras for handbags - mini mascaras last as long as the full size that always dry out anyway.

I ache for the Benefit mini lip ones, they last for ages too and cost 20 quid.

choccyp1g · 04/08/2013 22:56

I used to (when I was young and read magazines) and found some decent products that way. (Vichy day cream is the one I remember)

My theory is that the majority of beauty products are pretty much the same and barely work. They sell by advertising an image not by the results of using the product.

However, if a company giving you a free sample, then they are expecting the free sample to influence you to buy more, so it must be good stuff.

hollyisalovelyname · 05/08/2013 10:19

That's how I started using Rituals Mei Dao cream and body spray which I love. I got a freebie in a mag. Also the freebie Avon mascara was great.

cornypepper · 05/08/2013 10:21

the rituals mini mascara which is on one of the mags at the moment is brilliant - I've bought 2 so far but will get more if I spot it again.
