Can you find me a perfume that smells like an "expensive" country

My favourite perfume is the long discontinued Fendi. I found it in Salzberg in the '80's and loved it because it smelled just like my holiday in this glamorous city - winter, snow, Christmas, sparkle, leather and money (this was the 80's).
Everyone else was in YSL Paris which to me smelt like Paris - Delicious (romantic?) but overdone. The scent smelt the same on everyone in much the same way as everyone goes to Paris and does the same stuff.
I also have Clarins Eau des Jardins which I think smells like the South of France but I have had bad luck every time I wear it so don't like to put it on now.

Can anyone help me find a smell that captures somewhere lovely? I don't want to smell like somewhere that hundreds of people have been -Balearic Islands, Barcelona or Florida. Not too tacky -er Florida again and Dubai. Somewhere interesting, expensive and beautiful!!Hope this makes sense to someone.

I think this will be a difficult task for someone else as it's so personal to you.

What's your favourite at the moment?

I know what you mean, this is ridiculous, but, I love mademoiselle it smells warm and expensive. Especially if Its a hot day and I've got that suncream on in the brown bottle it makes me feel very holiday ish (Piz buin i think) Grin

aftermay Maybe asking to much but all the reviews of Fendi on one of the perfume sites used the same terms to describe it. I assumed lots of people could have matched it to somewhere like Salzburg or Vienna or similar if they knew them.

I can't actually find anything I like in the shops. Most of it is too floral and young or too one dimensional and obvious.

IceAddict Mademoiselle does smell amazing and it also reminds me holidays. I wanted something a more unique I think as two of my friends already wear it unfortunately.

Diptyque's Philosykos smells like a summer's evening in a fig grove on a small Greek island.

I adore it.

Acqua Di Parma Blu Mediterraneo range smells like luxury resort holidays to me, especially the Capri version.

I like dark sexy fragrances nothing too common and nothing too weak. I hate lots of citrus or in your face petals thy make me sneeze and remind me of an old aunt. Musk, sandlewood, patchouli, dark choc, jasmine, vanilla. That sort of stuff.

I like niche perfumes not easily sourced but can be found in some larger department stores and online.

Current Tom ford black orchid.

Everyone has their own taste and perfumes smell diff on each skin and last longer or fade sooner weird right?

Go on fragantica website you can search by nose, base notes basically the sort of smells you like. Maybe put in the fendi fragrance and it will suggest similar fragrances you may like. The brand names we all know are on their too. I love that site lol.

I may get Tom ford noir de noir next, only not sure since I think it wears off easily on my skin. Good luck!

I recently got a present of Pure Grace by Philosophy. It's a bit different, and not like any other perfume I know. I love it. It smells like Ischia.

Auntlinny · 04/08/2013 02:55

Mitsouko smells like St Petersburg!

WeleaseWodger · 04/08/2013 07:36

Try this range www.fredericmalle.com/main.cfm#!/perfumers

Lots of famous perfumers who are commissioned by big name brands to make their fragrances but under this brand, they make the scent they want.

All of the fragrances smell so much more sophisticated and expensive than regular perfume - the layers are so complex.
