Help make my frumpy dress look cool!!

Am going to school's 6th form ball with all my colleagues. Can't justify a new dress for what is really the kids' night so will have to resort to shitty old frumpy black thing. It's strapless, black, straight and almost full length (probably not meant to be but I'm a short arse) It's an awful granny material kind of nylony/chiffony.

So how can I make it look decent? All my skinny ( oh yes, I'm a big norked 16) colleagues will be in their little Coast numbers and I do not want to feel like their mother!

Am thinking big flower pin thing/ scarf/ chunky necklace? ( not all don't worry) Shoe wise I also hate heels so maybe beaded sandals?

Help please!

have you got a trouser suit? DJ?

I think big dramatic wrap which would suit your build... then good shoes and interesting bag and you will look fab and totally unmother-y!!

Chunky heeled shoes or wedges would look more modern than flats. I think a big flower thing and co-ordinating pashmina or even better diaphonous scarf worn as a wrap would look good, and some bangles - either chunky and coloured (wooden maybe, not plastic) or lots of gold or silver ones - could make it look quite fresh.

Thank you all! Off on a shoe hunt this weekend!
