Holy grail of simple jersey dresses?

janji · 31/07/2013 01:01

I have tried and failed to find a simple jersey dress; midi length, half or full sleeved for what seems like forever. I can find cap sleeved, above the knee, maxi with thigh high splits but alas no simple. I even came close to success a couple of times on ebay in desperation but alas at size 18 I am too huge?!Hmm
My budget is small as I want a couple or so of these types of dress to wear to work (school based in Reception class so likely to get paint splattered hence my reluctance to spend much). Where am I going wrong?!

I always see some in the La Redoute catalogue, but have read some awful things on here about their Customer Services so be warned!

Have you tried ASOS?

Size 18 is not "huge"!!

trinity0097 · 31/07/2013 07:22

Moda range at George at asda was where I got some last winter, don't think that they have any with sleeves yet, but hopefully they will again in the autumn. From memory a three quarter length to the knee jersey dress was about £15 (I'm 5'10 so for most ladies they will be below the knee!). They wash well too which is good!

SundaySimmons · 31/07/2013 07:54

La redoute customer service is vile. I was a good customer of theirs until I bought two pairs of converse for my son in a size 11. He didnt want them and when I went to return them I noticed that inside the shoes it said 11.5 UK size not 11, although the box said uk 11.

La redoute wouldn't accept them back, saying they were not the shoes they had supplied! Bastards!

Anyway, is this any good. (Black and Aubergine)

I see the marks and spencer have quite a few three quarter length knee length jersey dresses in their new collection

JennySense · 31/07/2013 16:25

I got some great jersey dresses in plain colours from lands end. They have generous sizing

Mumsnut · 31/07/2013 17:30

I think Alexon might be your answer here. The first three links are to their sale. I freely admit that these particular dresses aren't available on their site in an 18 at the moment but (a) things seem to come back into stock fairly regularly (b) Alexon comes up large so a 16 might work and (c) they also sell via John Lewis, Debenhams and House of Fraser so you might be lucky there.

Holy grail of jersey dresses has to be LK Bennett. I could never afford full price but got two nearly new from EBay for £15 each, they are amazing

TSSDNCOP · 31/07/2013 18:31

Have you tried Tu at Sainsbury?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/07/2013 19:04

Would something like this be any good?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/07/2013 19:04

Or this?

orangeandemons · 31/07/2013 19:15

Phase 8 do some nice ones

Gingersnap88 · 31/07/2013 19:25

Have you tried Jigsaw or White Company on eBay? They do nice jersey dresses. I have a nice one from Joules too and the sizing is generous for all three.

Also picked up a nice one in Fat Face (navy blue) and white stuff tend to have them. eBay again?

Good luck Smile I'm slowing replacing my wardrobe with jersey dresses as DC ruin nice ones with mucky paws! x

MexicanHat · 31/07/2013 20:00

I saw some jersey dresses in TKMaxx today.

Amarena · 31/07/2013 20:13

I love those Alexon dresses, Mumsnut. Perfect for work, shame I am on a spending ban!

moibutbetter · 31/07/2013 20:18

moibutbetter · 31/07/2013 20:19

www.matchesfashion.com/product/146887 hopefully that works

MrsPercyPig · 31/07/2013 20:22

is this any good?

BeattieBow · 31/07/2013 20:23

there's a lovely one in whistles here I have it and have had lots of compliments. it's good for work with high heels and flat shoes (i wore it with flip flops today).

spicywalrus · 31/07/2013 20:27

My M&S offering

I like the tulip print dress Remus.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/07/2013 20:32

I've been considering that Whistles one, but wondered if it might be rather shapeless? I'm an hourglass, so could easily look pregnant if not careful.

The White Company are usually brilliant for this sort of thing, but they seem to have hardly anything at the moment.

Brillig · 31/07/2013 20:33

Have you looked at Artigiano.co.uk, OP? (sorry, on ipad & it won't link for some reason)

Never bought from them, but I do like the look of some of their stuff.

BeattieBow · 31/07/2013 20:38

I don't look pregnant in it (and I do in lots of things!), but I'm quite flat chested at the moment. it isn't baggy and kind of skims the body without clinging.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/07/2013 20:44

Thanks, Beatie. I might try it on. However, I am v much not flat chested.

janji · 31/07/2013 22:17

Love the Alexon and Match.com ones but alas either don't have my size or beyond my budget. I keep looking at ebay in the hope that I might strike lucky. Size 18 seems to always be sold out; oh that I was my ore baby size 12self?!
