Can anyone enlighten me as to what the key trends are likely to be for A/W 2013?

Am hoping that I wont have to add much to my current wardrobe to update my look. Hoping some of the bloggers who also mumsnet will contribute some advice too! TIA

Merci! I think when I look around at people now who look good they are often very under stated but with amazing skin hair etc. And fairly slim. I am too old for 'fashion' and am trying tostick to what suits me and make teh best of myself

LadyMilfordHaven · 28/07/2013 16:32

same old then!

noddyholder · 28/07/2013 16:44

I don't think there are many looks you can't achieve with what you already have tbh. Same old is right it never really changes that much.

"Serious question"
In various shops I saw houndstooth check of various sizes. Puppytooth to large 15mm checks.

This is good for this year, yes? (I hope)

I love puppytooth + black Smile

InMyShreddies · 29/07/2013 12:35

I love '2012 retro, same clothes worn with an air of exasperation' Grin

I spent far too much on clothes last year, all good quality stuff I rarely buy, so intend to rewear pretty much all of them.

I bought (and this isn't conclusive)

Ankle boots
Riding boots
Winter coat
About a gazillion scarves
About 8 dresses
About 5 jumpers

Also some of those Uniqlo 'skinny' cords which I bought two sizes down, and they have still stretched beyond hope and unwearable. Cords are crap.

I am allowed Gap cropped black trousers, and some good blue denim skinnies - possibly distressed Diesel ones or River Island if budget limited. I will buy nothing else oh maybe some more merino... and a silver bangle...

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/07/2013 20:52

i bought a pair of marks and spencers brocade leggings today - black

they had a/w boots in store on friday, so i thought ; ooh yes, buy, buy'

YouAintNoLady · 30/07/2013 13:26

Glad to see that there are now some useful pointers on here from people like Amber and Sleep instead of the boring piss takers - one of whom seems to have been on a lot of threads re Royal Baby doing the same sort of thing. Possibly the heat getting to her?

shaggyrogers · 30/07/2013 14:30

I thought the piss taking was quite funny - it was only a bit of light hearted banter.

madammecholet · 30/07/2013 16:09

It's all about NAVY for AW which I personally am delighted about as that is most of my wardrobe.

Also, leather t shirts, embellishments and animal print are all staying about too...

LadyMilfordHaven · 30/07/2013 17:15

I love navy too. Often looks less cheap than black

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/07/2013 17:43

Oh I like the piss taking.

Personally I don't give two hoots what is 'in' but I love AW clothes and intend to be looking out for:

new black boots
grey boots (have been looking for blooming years though]
grey cigarette trousers
grey silk tops
scarves - especially grey ones but I fancy raspberry too
more fabric bikers because I bloomin' love em and don't care if they are in, out or shaken all about tbh.
a grey Chanel-esque jacket
more tube skirts and jersey dresses

TheRealFellatio · 30/07/2013 17:47

THink ruffle collar, multi coloured jacket and over sized large lace up shoes

God, that sounds unutterably grim. I am so glad I'm too old to give a shiney shite about any of this any more. I like to look reasonably fashionable, but there are limits for crying out loud. Grin

MrsCampbellBlack · 30/07/2013 17:50

Is levity banned from s&b now?

Give it another week when the september issues for all the magazines are out and it will be clear what AW is going to look like.

But I suspect that as others have said it will be the same as the last few winters, lots of texture, lots of leather, lots of animal and lots of cashmere. Oh and tartan too - the winter equivalent of nautical Wink

LadyMilfordHaven · 30/07/2013 19:49

Never buy too early in any season. Remember the mania over colours jeans last summer. All over by June then no one wore them.

Plus military every autumn. Nautical every spring.

LadyMilfordHaven · 30/07/2013 19:50

Fellatio. Ahem. That was "clown chic@. ;)

TheRealFellatio · 30/07/2013 19:52

Clown Chic sounds like an oxymoron to me. Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/07/2013 22:37

A/W always has purple. Always.

Last year I bought magazines on holiday (I don't read them usually) and they heralded paisley, brocade, silk slipper type shoes, velvet.
Same as this year.

I love jumpers (thin, thick, twinsets, cable, cardigans)
leggings
jeans
My M&S boots are over 10 years old, I wear them every year.

And a fleece so shoot me

QueenCadbury · 31/07/2013 08:07

So, AW according to grazia...
Ladylike-soft, round shoulders, skirts just below knee
Vamps- high shine, dark hues, plenty of attitude
Tramps-grunge with baby doll dresses, torn tights and tartan shirts
Big coats- the bigger, the better. Apparently.
Fluff-chubby coats and fluttering feathers
Tartan- gts dragged out every year yet I never see anyone wearing it!
Sixties-short, sharp and trapezoid
Sport utility- visible zips and d rings and elastic acted edges on shoe
Floral- think big blooms
Bricollage-designers cut up a few of their favourite things and then put them back together
A mans world-trousers suits
Pink-pepto bismo pink
Blue-bright, bold and regal
Grey.

There you have it!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/07/2013 12:46

:) Sadly, I am too old and busty for babydoll dresses, but if I was 17 I'd be totally embracing grunge. :)

sleepdodger · 01/08/2013 22:51

Amber nectarine I wonder if we do same job!!

AmberNectarine · 01/08/2013 22:54

I doubt it sleep. My job is in finance, but I'm a blogger in my spare time.
