Son's feet narrow 3E. Please advise!

My son is a 3E. When I suggested putting him in a 3F as he hates 'tight' shoes and loves a bit of stretch room (3E are so hard to find!), the Clarks shop assistant looked at me as if I was a child beater!

I need trainers for him for mucking around in and want to pay the bare minimum.

Would you put him in a 3F or is that really bad for his feet?
Thanks so much for any suggestions!

(It's just that 3E are hard to find and double the price and he really does detest tight fitting shoes so don't want to order some online only for him to reject them)

Blimey, that's unusual for Clarks. They usually measure dd's feet, tell me she's an E fitting then discover they don't have anything in her size so bring out an F fitting Hmm

Tbh I'd try a few cheap trainers on. Some are narrower fitting than others and you can usually tell if they're too loose.
