Please help me choose what colour nails/toenails to have?

DDs wedding coming up. For the first time I'm having gel nails on both my toe/finger nails. So, no fear of chippage.

The dress I'm wearing is purply/blue - no patterns. Shoes nude suede.

I'd like something gorgeous and noticeable but classy looking. I know when I go get them done I'll be totally unable to make a decision as will be spoiled for choice. What would look good do you reckon?

Oooh that sounds dramatic :) Normally I have pale colours so if I chip it it's not as noticeable but with gel ones I won't have to think about that so want something really 'stand outy' I didn't know there was a red/black. Thank you.

And shall I get fingers/toes the same shade?

I'm with lady m - I like dark toenails in the summer. Favouring navy this year. Fingers always nude or v subtle French mani.

MadAboutHotChoc · 26/07/2013 13:07

Navy blue is a current fav of mine. Deep purple is another one but that would be too much with your dress (unless its your toes and you have nude/beige on your finger nails.

YY to short nails when wearing dark nail polish. Otherwise beige/nude is best.

If you have long nails, then something light - a light pink (like Dior Rosy Bow), a nude colour, grey or taupe. I find that most colours on long nails end up looking a bit cheap, so I'd go for shorter nails or something fairly neutral.

If you have shorter nails, then something like Chanel Taboo would be nice. Or a bright pink.

I also really like Chanel Starlet. It's very flattering on fair skin and quite classy IMO.

A coral that leans orange rather than pink might make for a nice contrast with a bluey purple. It's a great summer colour also. I tend to wear vampy colours in the autumn/winter myself. I prefer toes and nails not to match but its a personal thing. Another suggestion would be orange red toes and a sparkle nude/sand on fingers. It's going to also go well with most things you wear and it's what I'm sporting today ;)

Wow, thanks all. I've not had gel nails before. I'd hoped they'd add to the length but maybe that's not how they work. My nails are mid-short at the mo. I like the sound of coral/orange and also red/black. Agree that purple would be too close to colour of the dress which is on the purply side of blue. I can't do links or I'd send one. The shoes are very pale/tan nude suede wedge. I'm going to have a look at the colours you've all mentioned now :)

Thanks lemon. If I got a red/black I'd have to have it put on by a nail person for sure, as my hands aren't steady and I'd have it all over my fingers. I have been on the OPI website (because that's the make the lady I'm going to uses) and love the coral/orange colours as well as their deep reds. I've got some great ideas now and won't end up with my default safe/bland look.
