My Big Hair blew up this morning

So what do I replace it with? I had a couple of years' daily use of it, generally like it but a bit annoyed it went pop.

Do I buy another or has something else come out in the meantime I should consider?

I have fine hair in a chin length bob which I like to curl under at the ends and try to get volume on the top

Mine went pop recently too.

My hair sounds similar to yours, so I bought the new smaller-barrelled Big Hair (pink rather than purple). It seems to be even better than the original one (as long as it keeps working....).

aGnotherGnu · 26/07/2013 07:14

Ooh that's interesting. Smaller would indeed be better.

I also remember reading about some very expensive thing people were raving about, but can't remember what it was

Mine lasted a year before going on fire.......

aGnotherGnu · 26/07/2013 07:56

Oh Lordy I didn't realise the blowing up was a common feature! It did produce an interesting smell, and a sort of glow from the inside

If you bought it from Boots or Argos, they have a 3 year guarantee. My friend has had hers replaced in Boots without any problem. You would need the receipt though......

Keztrel · 26/07/2013 08:20

Agnother, is the expensive thing you're thinking of the babyliss perfect curl?

aGnotherGnu · 26/07/2013 14:29

It was Boots, but no idea at all where the receipt is.
Yes the perfect curl, that was it. Is it any good?

lol at title

Keztrel · 26/07/2013 14:37

I've never used the perfect curl but I know it's for creating curls so doesn't do the same job as a BBH and wouldn't work on chin length hair.

aGnotherGnu · 26/07/2013 14:41

That's a relief, I really can't justify the spends on that anyway :)

So maybe another Big Hair, but a small one (keeping the receipt this time and accepting that it will probably blow up / catch fire at some stage)

Damn. I bought mine from Superdrug.

New one was from Argos; I shall be hanging onto the receipt in case this one goes bang too.

lurkingaround · 27/07/2013 09:51

Oh yes, they go phht easily enough. Stick the receipt to the box, fling it in the wardrobe (yes I am v tidy Hmm) somewhere. There is a guarantee with them and once you show the receipt (which you will now fairly easily find cos it's taped to a flipping big box that takes up a lot of room) the store will very happily hand you another BBH.

aGnotherGnu · 27/07/2013 11:02

I am cursed.

Due to my blown up BBH, I dug my hair dryer and round brush out (not used for months). Plug in, switch on an BANG.

2 appliances in 3 days. Should I be suspicious / call an exorcist?

Check the socket?

sailorsgal · 27/07/2013 20:02

Babyliss replaced mine but that blew aswell. A hairdresser tried that new perfect curl on me and it's amazing but not sure I would buy one.

currentlyconfuseddotcom · 27/07/2013 20:04

Oh I read that and thought 'wow what a title' and clicked to see what exactly your hair was up to Grin

I didn't realise you were talking about a product

altostratus · 27/07/2013 20:24

I've had two break on me, they simply stopped rotating, which seems to be a common problem.
