Dark skin scarring easily

One of my dc has very dark skin (looks mixed-race, tho dh and I are both white) and scars easily. Is there anything I can do to prevent or minimise scarring?

Bumping for the insomniacs who were properly busy during the day.

Surely someone know what to do about this?

i think...it's being prone to keloid scars. I am quite pale white female as is my mother and we both scar very easily with large keloids. The worst the doctor had seen. He said its common in black skin. he called us both dynamic healers! The skin heals too fast and too thick and layered (i think ). they dont flatten or reduce much.

so it means when cut..she would heal over v quickly.... like my mum and i. not a bad thing but means whopping great scars. when we got ours it was before bio oil etc though i dont think wouldve made a difference as it hasnt on the old scars but then again i never tried it on new scars as wasnt around then

doc said it was why some tribes scarify themselves. because they develop the thick keloids, it means they can decorate their bodies. So they have patterns on their chest, breast etc. It's for adornment like how us westerners would tattoo. And they have them for life as keloids don't go down, they stay raised and bumpy (as ive proved..my big one is from when i was 14). So he reckoned somewhere in mine and mum's lineage wouldve been some mixed race blood even though we are white skinned with straight hair.. I might be wrong so please don't flame me peops! I am reporting what he said and ive heard similar since. But here is the good thing..apparently keloids mean you age better. I've always been told i look 10yrs younger. I'm 42 and people often think i'm early 30s. My mum is 67 and looks younger. I think keloids mean extra collagen. I also read an article with Katie Price. Harvey had burnt himself and scarred quickly and she was told he had extra collagen due to his mixed race. and she was because women inject collagen to stay young

I'm not sure you can do much apart from have the scars revised, I have had major surgery on my legs 4 times and they have revised my most recent scar, they changed the suturing technique by the looks of things, it has worked for most of the scar but at the top on my thigh it has some keloid characteristics.

how to minimise it..i don't know. As i said..bio oil wasn't around when mum and i got ours (hers was from having me! c section) . All i know is it did nothing for it years later. Might reduce slightly on fresh scar

when my mum had hysterectomy, they tucked in the c-section keloid! they'd never seen anything like it. of course she scarred from hyst..but it was neater than what she'd had before

She needs to be careful and non accident prone lol :-( Mine is on inside of ankle. Since i was 14 and had that op that caused it, it's rubbed and it's massive. I've always had to buy shoes and boots a size up. There is also an area of what they called proud flesh (ie never flattened and is so fat!) and it's sooooo thick. so i have this thick scar and proud flesh. looks gross but its part of me and i learnt to accept it. just a pain if shoes rub

techniques have changed so much..i''m sure they could do miracles on big scars now. I m just not bothered any more. Me and mum got ours in 70s and 80s so we were buggered!

I know there's not much to be done for existing scars, but can I prevent new ones forming?

Fortunately he doesn't have any large ones, just one small keloid and lots of tiny scars. He doesn't heal any faster than his siblings, and they have no scars. (My mum heals ridiculously fast, which caused her problems with deep wounds as they healed over from the outside, leaving the unhealed part as a sort of cyst. But she still doesn't scar. The only scars she has are from the surgeries to remove the cysts!)
