I'd love to get that polished look like the Duchess of Cambridge, Kim Sears et al

I hate the fake nails/hair/tan look that a lot of celebs go for but I'd love to pull off the sleek swishy look that these ladies do so well. I know they have the best hairdressers and make-up artists at their disposal plus generous budgets, and clearly that's not an option for most of us, but there must be other things I could do to make myself look a bit more polished and classy.

I don't suit dresses and heels (nor does my lifestyle) but I don't live in jeans either. I buy quite nice stuff but seem to either look too 'done' and a bit frumpy or casual and slightly scruffy. When I was reading up on colour and style analysis I worked out that I might be a 'natural' type - could that be why I am destined to look like a student or my mother-in-law instead of a classy bird? :)

It also would help you if you could become famous as well as polished. Look at Princess Diana, nowhere near being stunningly beautiful but all the Daily Express readers everyone thought she was because she had that auro of fame.

Navy blazers always seem to help too.

Auro?!

I do that look on occasion it takes the most work of all! If you have good basics hair skin clothes bag etc its then a matter of styling and grooming. You need a light tan and defined lashes and brows plus you n=may all shoot me but need to be slim (ish)

Is there any way of acheiving anything like the swishy hair look without a professional blowdry though? I have thick long hair which hairdressers love, on the rare occasion I visit one, and when they blowdry it it looks great- but that lasts 2 days max and then I am back to tying it in a ponytail all the time as when I dry it it just looks like shite. Do people have lessons or something to learn to blowdry it like a hairdresser? I just have no clue. And that makes probably more difference than anything I think.

Oh yes, you definitely need to be the skinnier side of slim for this look.

Kate's face shape has changed so much, she used to have (almost) chubby cheeks.

And look how normal her hair looks too!

Lazer treatment for hair removal.. know lot of girls who have had this done... no more razors!!!

I think she's had some cutting edge teflon coating added to her hair. It's the only explanation!

I like her hair in that 'before' picture a lot more than her usual blowdried-to-hell style! But totally understand why she wants/needs to look so groomed.

The hair is the thing isn't it. Kate M must get hers done every day.

Then everything pressed and good quality stuff and almost there.

The hair takes a lot of maintenance, blow dry every day probably.
Both wear very 'classic' understated clothes, not too much cleavage or legs. I think the look ages both of them tbh.

I see one mum on the school run who always looks immaculate, even when's she's on her way to the gym. I aspire to be so well put together.

It's all in the hair and expensive well cut clothes.
Does anyone think KM has extensions in? She seems to have a lot more hair than before ,or is it all in the blow dry?

Yes, I think she has extensions!

I think she has very thick hair. If you look at the pics of her when she did the runway thing back at uni, she has loads of hair there too.

I've never thought she looks like she has extensions (but am no expert on these things as always have shortish hair). As long as your hair is long and reasonably thick the right blowdry can make it huge! BBH gives me a helmet head of huge hair, and mine is quite fine and bob length.

Wow I love that before and after link of km! She's relatively normal looking... there's hope for me! :) haha

I think Jennifer Aniston's look is too casual, simple and underdone. And Kate looks stunning but older than her age.

Everyone is right about the hair. They must have extensions to make it look thicker. And let's face it, they don't blowdry it themselves.

I wouldn't rush to look like Kim! IMO she looks older than she is- she could pass for 35 easily. She's got a pretty face, good teeth, good hair and a nice figure. But whenever I see her I think she looks as if she knows all of this and is trying too hard- and if I didn't know she had a degree I'd think she was a bit of a WAG and an airhead. My DD is within a year of Kim's age and looks much fresher and youthful! IMO again she looks like someone who tries too hard to look 'sophisticated' at too young an age.

If you want that look you need money but I think KM is ages by her look. She needs to lay off the eyeliner first of all. The pictures of her without her blow dry when she was on a tour of Asia make her look much younger.

She looked great in the just out of hospital interview. A bit more natural, she looked very pretty.

Don't forget that what we see is what they both want us to see. We rarely see them in their old clothes or on a 'bad hair' day- it's all done for an audience and many women could look that good with the money, effort and a team of people to help.
They have an advantage in that they are both pretty and have very regular neat features, long hair, and are slim ( though they work on that.)
No one can look or should try to look like anyone else - but you can make the most of what you have.

The clothes she wears are pretty interchangeable with the clothes her Mum wears, just quite middle aged. I know that she has to toe quite a conservative line fashion wise but it would be great to see her hint at something a teeny bit edgier and younger.

I think the hair is quite expensive to pull off BUT I think it's poss to pull off that glowing look IF you run everywhere AND always have access to a shower.

Getting a Brazilian blow dry (the keratin one which is flat ironed in) does make frizzy hair a hell of a lot easier to manage for 3 months or so.

Kim Sears Looked lovely in the Nady Murray interview where they were walking the dogs. She knew she'd be on camera throughout Wimbledon and be getting judged in the DM - I would have hired an entire crew to do daily makeovers if that was me! And she mainly wore high street stuff except for the final (and if I was offered a free £1k dress I'd wear it too!)

merrymouse · 24/07/2013 17:32

I think Kim sears should have had a little prize for her hair at the final - in that heat too! (or is there aircon on centre court?). It was so swishy.
