Fancy helping me find a dress to wear to a wedding?

DTisMYdoctor · 22/07/2013 22:44

I'm going to a wedding later in the year, but it's abroad so it will still be quite warm. It occurred to me today that all the summer sales are in full flow so if I don't find a dress soon, I'll never get anything suitable.

The wedding is quite stylish, but not overly formal. I'd prefer something on the knee, fitted (but not clingy) and preferably with a bit of a sleeve. I'm quite curvy and very pale.

All suggestions welcome!

Tell us some more about your shape, age, budget...and style icons if you have any?

DTisMYdoctor · 22/07/2013 22:59

I don't think I have any style icons! Grin

Age 40, pear shaped and decent sized boobs. Budget under £200 (and the lower the better). I'm way too wobbly for anything floaty - I tend to suit dresses that have a bit more structure.

Thanks Waffly. The Monsoon one is only available in an 18 and I wasn't keen on the other one I'm afraid.

I just discovered pepperberry a sister company to Bravissimo, they do gorgeous dresses made to fit different levels of curviness I think it may have changed my life Gringot 2 lovely dresses and both in the sale, huzzar!

DTisMYdoctor · 22/07/2013 23:53

Thanks for all the links - I'm heading to bed but will have a proper look tomorrow. Lots of dresses out of stock in my size though. I'd forgotten about Pepperberry so will have a look there. I may actually have to go into town shopping I fear... Grin

what about the Jaeger silk dress I linked to in another thread?

here I think it's the type of dress that can be dressed up as well as worn with boots so quite versatile?

DTisMYdoctor · 25/07/2013 13:34

It's a bit dark for the occasion I think WildThongsHeartString. The weather can be up to 25 degrees in the location at that time of year, so looking for something a bit more summery.

A lot of the dresses linked to are fairly limited in sizes, so I think I may actually have to brave the shops this weekend and see what's left in stores. I quite liked that H0F striped one FauxFox - I might see if I can try that on in the shop to see what the fabric and fit is like.

Someone linked to a Hobbs one that I had looked at earlier in the summer and loved, but sadly not in my size now. I am cursing myself for not being on the ball when the summer sales started!

Oh and I liked the red reiss one Angus, though thought it looked awful on the model. I'll see if I can try it on in store.

this is nice

goodjambadjar · 25/07/2013 13:49

If you have an MandCo shop near you, try them. They're brilliant for structured dresses, decent prices and a good fit. I'm a 16-18 and can be pear or hourglass depending where I shop. I got a gorgeous dress from them which I wore at a wedding at the weekend. They pride themselves on bringing out ranges which can be worn by anyone between 20 and 60, apparently. Good luck!

DTisMYdoctor · 25/07/2013 17:04

Ooh I like that Whitedogblackspots!

Lovely isnt it? perfect for what you want :)

DTisMYdoctor · 25/07/2013 22:44

Yes! I'd looked on the Coast site before, but missed that! I've reserved in store to try on - so fingers crossed it fits! I did get another dress from there for a special occasion earlier in the year that fitted beautifully, so I'm feeling positive (and deserve some good luck after a terrible few weeks). I will report back once I've tried it on.

Thanks everyone for the links!

Thanks tethersend - the Mary Portas one is very similar to something I have and I'm not quite sure what the Phase 8 one links to Grin
