I never EVER thought I'd post in here. I'm 46 and so NOT into 'fashion' you would not believe. However just now, I would like to go out and buy some nice summer clothes now holiday season is finally here. It seems I'M TOO LATE. Trying to find some shorts for my sons and some nice summer clothes for me seems impossible. All that seems left in the shops is the tiny or huge left over crap in sales. But it's summer NOW - I want to buy summer clothes NOW. I didn;t want to buy when it was cold and raining and I wasn't sure whether I could afford to go on holiday.

Please kind ladies who know about these things. When was I meant to have bought my summer clothes? Should I be looking for winter clothes NOW then when it's boiling?

What shops are you looking in? There was still loads of summer clothes about when I went shopping earlier. Try Gap, M&S, Monsoon and Debenhams.

I did look in M&S. I had my boys with me which made looking really hard...but I couldn;t see anything nice.

Monsoon, is a bit expensive and floaty for me. Not really my style. i'll have a look in Gap.
Will try Debenhams next time I manage to get a child free trip to town. I was looking for shoes mainly at the weekend, and all I could see was autumn stuff or sale crap. Well I'm a size 8 - and there's only EVER crap in the sale if you are a size 8.

I just wasn;t expecting the sales to be on.

When should I have looked for summer stuff to get a decent choice???

In about Feb/march. But to be honest gap have loads of summer stuff in the sale but also new stuff coming in is still for warm weather.

willyoulistentome · 22/07/2013 15:03

But in Feb/ March it was bloody freezing. Who in their right mind buys summer clothes in Feb?? I don't have cash to spare for things I won't be wearing for months. Seems daft.

Go into Jones for sandals in an 8. I am an 8 too and there were loads of pairs at 70% off.

It is a conundrum.
I used to work in retail, and remember unpacking heavy knitwear in 25 degrees.

I am currently looking at boots.Sad

MrsCampbellBlack · 22/07/2013 15:30

To be fair its not as bad as it used to be. There is far more cross seasonal stuff in the shops all year round.

J Crew have a fab sale on if you order from the US. Their chino shorts are great.

Mrsrobertduvall · 22/07/2013 15:34

I have just been looking at J Crew...ridiculously excited they are opening here in November. Please God, they will do their beautiful shoes in large sizes, as in States.
Have drooled over Nordstrom too.
