What style of bikini would suit me?

Firstly no judging on my decision to subject the world to my body in a bikini- I'm no model but happy enough with myself to wear one on holiday.

So, I am a size 12 up top with not very big boobs (34c), and a defined waist although a wobbly tummy! I carry all my weight on my hips and (very large) arse/ thighs. Size 18 on the bottom.

Do you have any suggestions on shape and style bikini that what look good, flatter me the most?

Thanks

I am no expert but think you should play up your chest...so a padded and maybe patterned top, I think halter neck styles are the most flattering, giving the illusion of widening your shoulders and therefore making your waist look smaller in comparison. Block colour bottoms, but not boy shorts or 50's style.

Don't be tempted by a tankini, if you don't feel comfortable in a bikini after trying some on, go for a lovely one piece instead.

I would agree with no boy shorts. I would go with highish leg bottoms though probably not tie ups. Then on top either a halter neck or bra style (maybe padded).

I am picturing something like

this top with bottoms in navy maybe?

this is also nice of you prefer matching set..

Thoughts?...

If you aren't so keen on floral then this top is great too, very Missoni! Would look fab with black bottoms, or pick a colour that matches one of those in the top...

Thank you for the links and I like all of those. Especially glad you said halter neck as that's what I have worn in the past.

Why no boy shorts? Surely the high leg shows off more 'flesh'?

Oh and I've just discovered on the bra thread I could be a 34f not a 36b/c that I'm wearing now... Hmm

Ok, sorry to be a bra bore but have you measured yourself recently (following the guidance on the bra treads)? It's just that at a size 12 it's unlikely that you are a 34/36 back.

NarkyNamechanger · 21/07/2013 16:23

Hi yes I measured last night when I discovered the thread although I havent tried any new sizes on yet.

I think boy shorts just look like a large expanse of fabric, they don't actually hide or minimise anything, whereas a higher cut, but not little triangle tie side type can be more flattering.
