I've no option but to wear a dress today but I may not be brave enough to leave the house

It's baking here today. Last resort is to dust off the only day dress I own.

Except I only wear dresses on mega important occasions (last three times included DH's very posh works do, a royal garden party and my wedding!) and I feel unutterably self conscious. Also I'm pretty fat and my enormous white calves are embellished with midge bites, scars from biking incidents and two asymmetrical sunburn patches from yesterday Blush

But on MN someone always comes along to tell you it's fine, right? [hopeful]

It is fine. Nothing will happen if you wear a dress!

OnTheNingNangNong · 20/07/2013 09:23

It's perfectly fine to wear a dress, no one will notice any marks on your legs and the sunburn is nothing compared to those who are lobster red all over.

poachedeggs · 20/07/2013 09:39

Logic tells me it's fine. Thank you for agreeing!

Ofc it is fine

The sky will not fall in

Off you trot into the big wide world

wear your dress, I feel similar to you, but I have Sally Hansen airbrush legs and it makes a massive difference to the 'look' of the leg, evens out tone etc.

Ive also been wearing shorts - not above knee, because I just dont like my legs, but I have had my legs out, been to shops, school, etc and nothing happened.

The sky didnt fall in, nobody commented - except one mum who admired my skirt and said it suited me! Grin and I now have a tan on my legs. By tan I mean vvvvvv pale colour which isnt blue or white.

Go for it!

poachedeggs · 20/07/2013 10:39

Ok I'm off out, here goes nothing!

Good for you. Do report back how it goes.

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 20/07/2013 12:20

I have even worn shorts on the school run!!!

I am LARGE. Well, fat. I thought someone might comment - nobody said a thing. I did not even notice anyone having a look at my horrible knees. The shorts are quite longs, but above the knee.

I survived, and so did the rest of the world.

poachedeggs · 20/07/2013 13:04

I did it! I took the kids to the leisure centre. Then I was feeling brave, plus I had something to collect, so I stopped in at my work and shocked them. Then I just thought 'sod it' and went to the shop. Hurrah!

See, the issue for all of us is ours. Nobody really cares. Unless you are wearing leather hot pants and a crop top and aren't a supermodel nobody gives a toss!

The turning point for me was good friends who are v slim, my beauty therapist, also my friend who have seen me minus clothes couldn't get my "legs issue". So I had a chat with myself and now wear shorts/ skirts/ dresses.

So far the world still turns.
