Finding myself again by reclaiming my grey

Hi just joined the forum and posted on another thread about how I am reclaiming my life and making some big decisions. Here's the next one...

Do I stop dyeing my hair and if so, how do I go about it without it looking ghastly?

I see a lot of women now (Judy Murray recently) who have great, grey hair and I would like to let my hair become its natural self but how?

I would guess that by now I have absolutely no natural colour left in my hair - and I think (from the badger stripe) that the grey would be a nice silver colour which I would be really happy with.

Currently have shoulder(ish) length straight hair but wouldn't mind the funky short elf cut that I see a lot of women with grey hair sporting.

Advice & stories on how you've done it would be great.

I had shoulder length hair which had been dyed forever, mainly at home. I tried to do the highlights thing to blend in the grey, but ended up a horrible blonde with my normal dark hair. So, I took the plunge and went really really short, and I mean really short.
I have never had so many compliments about my hair, it has grown into a lovely pixie cut after a couple of weeks, lots of silver all the way through and I love it.
I am 42 and feel like it is 'me' and not fake anymore. Each to their own, but I love my natural hair.

Fab41 - I had seen some folks with the "blended" look which wasn't that blended and I really don't want that. My job is such that I have to work with new people all the time - and would hate that their first impression of me was "look at the state of her hair" - and, like it or not, people make judgements based on bugger all sometimes!

You have given me hope. How short is short....are we talking clippers short?

This thread might be worth having a look at - I've been admiring the ladies on the thread and checking in whenever I see it popping back up! Lots and lots of advice on there.

Maybe you could try stripping the colour with Colour B4 if you want to retain some length? If you read the thread I mentioned I'm pretty sure someone on there did it.

Good luck! :)
