How hard can it be to find a summer dress??

I'm looking for a flattering everyday dress.

I am

Early 40s
Size 12
Slimmish, good legs, boobs, a bit top heavy

I'm looking for something above the knee with short sleeves (don't like my upper arms), not shapeless/sack-like, preferably with a waist and not mumsy!

Is this impossible??

I bought a really nice one today, from Tesco of all places.

It's black with a white heart print, and I think they had a kind of burgundy one as well.

It has little sleeves, stops just above the knee, has a kind of fitted waistband then flares out a little bit. It's really flattering.

Can't find it on their website though Hmm

DespicableYou · 21/07/2013 18:48

Really can't find it anywhere on their website, so weird. I can take a pic though if you want to see it.

DespicableYou · 21/07/2013 18:58

Have put a pic on my profile and attempted to make my profile public..

minxthemanx · 21/07/2013 19:03

Hurrah!!! Have dress!! Debenhams, loads of nice styles in Mantaray but found the perfect one in their ordinary collection. Knee length, pretty purply/pink, shoulder straps that can wear normal bra under, fits gorgeously on the bust and shows off legs whilst hiding horrid stomach. £22. Result. Will try to put link.

EduCated · 21/07/2013 19:21

What's the sizing like with People Tree? Seen a couple of dresses I like, but never bought from them before.

spicywalrus · 21/07/2013 20:02

DespicableYou, I saw that dress yesterday when I nipped into Tesco and thought it was lovely.

BikeRunSki · 21/07/2013 20:19

I would describe myself pretty much the samexas you OP. I bought this on impulse about 5 weeks ago when I was walking past Fatface. I have worn it loads and always get complemented.

Hummingbird dress

MyNameIsSuz · 21/07/2013 21:22

Can I just say thanks to whoever suggested Great Plains? I've just bought two dresses!

mumofthemonsters808 · 21/07/2013 22:42

Today I've bought a lovely cotton dress from Tesco and it is actually knee length and suitable for everyday ware for £20.The weather is guaranteed to change now.

RonaldMcDonald · 22/07/2013 01:24

suz
I'll claim that! I have the green velo..it's fab

MyNameIsSuz · 22/07/2013 09:12

Hooray, thanks Ronald! I got the Cambridge stripe dress and the Talahassee dress in blue. I've been struggling this year as I need something breastfeeding friendly but am so sick of separates, and I'm also fairly short and find a lot of shops have gorgeous dresses that look frumpy on me as they are always too long. I'm optimistic about these!

MrsPercyPig · 22/07/2013 09:32

I've ordered this soldier people tree dress

Hopefully it will be nice when it arrives!

basildonbond · 23/07/2013 18:03

Jigsaw have some dresses in at the moment which fit the short-sleeved but not frumpy bill - I just got a lovely jersey one (it's not on the website yet so can't link)

mumat39 · 24/07/2013 10:26

This is lovely

Dancergirl · 24/07/2013 10:34

mumat39 · 25/07/2013 19:58

Oh. I missed that!

How did the ones yo ordered fit? Were they any good? Hope you've found something and if not, hope you find something soon.

Xx

Dancergirl · 25/07/2013 21:25

Let's just say I'm getting to know my postman and courier VERY well!

Debenhams ones went back but I did find something at Boden - navy blue cotton, think it's called 'pretty cotton dress'. Doesn't look like much on their website but it actually fits my shape very well.

I've ordered a couple of White Stuff dresses too.

mumat39 · 26/07/2013 00:01

Yayyyy! I really struggle finding clothes that fit me, so I'm really glad you found something.

Fingers crossed for the white stuff ones too.

Xx

Highlander · 26/07/2013 08:12

Oh, the Mistral dresses are gorgeous! And on sale! Grin Grin

CatOfTheDay · 26/07/2013 10:40

I now have the People Tree dress with the cats on - I love it! It's longer than the pics and comes to my knee, but I'm used to that what with being a shortarse.

I'm normally a size 10 but they were sold out so ordered a 12 as I didn't think my boobs would squeeze into an 8, I have plenty of room are the waist but it ties so doesn't really matter.

nextphase · 26/07/2013 18:00

Minstral is my new friend - V necks, and looks like not everything is empire line. Flowers

theDudesmummy · 28/07/2013 16:59

Oh hang on, just saw it was viscose, so on the other hand...no...

soapnuts · 28/07/2013 17:12

this is one - cant see the other on the website but its lovely....
