Following on from the bikini thread last week, op thank you!

The thread encouraged women of all shapes to get their bikinis on. I was doubtful always having been the woman in the boiling hot weather wearing the folded/gathered cozzie (which are horrible when cold and wet and sticking to your tummy). So I bought black shorties and this top fully expecting to return them. But I'm shocked to report that actually it's quite flattering and much more appropriate, for the first time In ages I didn't feel like the odd one out and no one even so much as glanced in my direction!

So go for it, that's what I say!

I've had a bikini on three times this week at the beach/hotel pool. That thread gave me the push not to stay covered up constantly and not give a shit what anyone else thought!

Good for you orange, that's what mumsnet confidence does for you. ( and me)

Also thanks to mumsnet I have my first ever bikini waiting for my beach holiday next month.

For far too many years I've been the frumpy Brit shuffling about in a swimsuit. This year I'm going to be out and proud Grin

I bought my first ever bikini after reading that thread. It should arrive tomorrow...

OrangeLily · 16/07/2013 22:11

Its actually easier in the UK...because everyone you see at the beach abroad has been on a 'holiday diet' and gone for all their waxing and possibly tanning (there's a lot gone in to looking 'casual' at the beach on hols) whereas if you are in the UK a lot of folk haven't bothered at all!

I've just ordered a 50's style high waisted bikini and I'm a size20-22 I'm only likely to wear it in my back garden but I haven't dared even try a bikini since 2001! So thank you too :)

WTHS thanks for the thread! It inspired me to read the previous bikini one and then go shopping to my nearest Debenhams! I am pearshape, short, out of condition size 12 bottom half, wobbly tummy etc etc... But those shorts are really great and I got the matching top which is lovely and fits perfectly.

So unexpectedly I will be on a beach in a bikini this summer as opposed to last year feeling like a conspicuous brit in a swimsuit amoung women of all shapes and sizes in bikinis!

Definitely a must have mumsnet !
