Help, my hair straighteners have broken ...

Hello. Total disaster, my GHDs have finally given up the ghost. On a Saturday late afternoon. I would have thought after seven years loyal service they would have the decency to break on a day when I could get next day delivery on their replacement.

I'm sporting a frizzy afro right now but luckily the weather means I can wear a large sun hat all day tomorrow. Not sure how I will cope Monday as I've never mastered blow drying my hair smooth (and at 36 if I was going to, I would have done by now).

Anyway I need to get a new pair ordered right away. My emergency credit card budget is up to £120. When did GHDs get so confusing though, there are so many to choose from ...

I have long (sits on my shoulder blades), highlighted (so damaged), straight but frizzy hair. It's neither luxuriously thick or finely thin, although my 10 month old is doing a great job of trying to thin it for me one handful at a time.

Are the Gold GHDs any better than the Mark IV ones?
Would the thicker plate ones be better for me?
Is there another brand that I should consider?
Do cash back sites work?

Please help.

When mine bust, I was recommended to get Cloud 9's rather than new GHDs as they cost the same amount but have adjustable heat and go hotter. Sadly, I could only afford new straighteners if I used vouchers and couldn't find Cloud 9's anywhere that took the vouchers so I got the GHD Golds (which I do love) but wish I'd got the others as friends and my hairdresser both recommended them.

Some cash back sites work. Which one are you looking at?

Thanks for replying Blather.

I took the plunge and went with the GHD Golds this morning. I did consider the Cloud 9s but as I couldn't find anyone who had actually used them I played it safe. I know I love GHDs already!

The cashback site seems to have worked but instead of the 10% it has credited me with 2% as I used a voucher. I only used a free postage voucher so that was a mistake but at least I know the cash back site will work for next time.

Now I'm just waiting for them to arrive!

I like my Golds. I went from an ancient original set of GHDs to the new ones so it was a bit of a shock but they're every bit as good as my old ones. I like the fact that the new ones beep when they're ready to go and the new twisty power cable makes them easier to use.
