White jeans - yes or no?

JemimaMuddledUp · 13/07/2013 17:52

Picked up some white jeans on impulse in the Next sale. They fit nicely, but I am at a loss as to what to wear with them without looking like I'm going dancing around my handbag in my white stilletos.

What can I wear with them? Or should I just take them back?

White jeans can be good if you style them right, I like them with jackets and/or shirts - e.g. this or this.

They can also be VERY bad (very frumpy - like this, particularly boot cut ones. And hard to keep immaculate - stained or less than crisp isn't a good look.

BarefootShirl · 13/07/2013 18:12

I wear mine with quite tight fitting vests or shirts but agree with Aetae - nightmare to keep clean!

Bowlersarm · 13/07/2013 18:16

I practically live in my white jeans in the summer. I have a few pairs as they do get grubby easily High heels, and a pretty cardigan in the evening. Wedges and t shirt/short sleeved shirt during the day. I'm not a naff person-honestly.

scarlet76 · 13/07/2013 18:25

I have a pair from Next called relaxed skinny. I wear them quite casual: rolled to the ankle with tan sandals and a T or cotton top.

JemimaMuddledUp · 13/07/2013 18:28

What a coincidence Aetae - I have just pinned that pic of the woman in white jeans and a denim shirt to Pinterest whilst looking for ideas.

Keeping clean isn't too much of a problem, my youngest DC is 7 so I'm past the sticky fingered toddler stage. As I teach a nursery class all week I quite like something a little more high maintenance at weekends or in the holidays.

They are skinny fit and seem to fit well (snug but not too tight). I am a size 10 and 5'6 so pretty average sized.

How you keep them clean more than 3 minutes is beyond me.

gastrognome · 13/07/2013 19:10

I usually end up wearing mine with a stripy T-shirt and chunky Camper sandals.

Amazinggg · 13/07/2013 19:13

I just scored some white Topshop Baxters from a chazza shop earlier today for a fiver in my exact size and leg length. Well chuffed but not sure how to wear...

GypsyFloss · 13/07/2013 19:21

I have some skinny ones from Sainsburys that I wear with tucked in blouses for work. I spend my day crawling around the floor and handling tiny babies so I'm amazed that they stay clean. In fact I think I'm more at risk of knackering them by sitting on some melted chocolate in my car Grin

happyreindeer · 13/07/2013 19:25

I wear mine slightly rolled up with silk blossom type tops

MrsRajeshKoothrappali · 13/07/2013 19:44

Watch Dirty Dancing.

Baby pulled them off - steal her style!

Mine are MIH Marrakeshs, the unfrumpiest bootcuts in the world she tells herself

Sonotkylie · 13/07/2013 20:22

Love mine too. I tend to the casual t shirt or shirt and sandals too.
They do get dirty, but are made of v hard wearing fabric so take washing. I wash them every time I wear them with Napisan in wash and they stay white

JemimaMuddledUp · 13/07/2013 21:09

Well there seem to be more people saying yes than saying no...

Anthea Turner and Liz Hurley are fans too...but don't let that put you off Wink

ToastedTeacakes · 13/07/2013 22:42

I wear them. Best not to sit down in them prior to leaving house because I have a black cat :)

I wear mine slightly cropped, so ankle shows, with suede ankle boots or pointy flats. I like them with stripe tops, grey or navy tees, a silk cami with nice cardi, etc. I think there are tons of ways to style them, and they make an outfit feel really fresh.

Surely the days are long gone where we still associate them with cheezy disco? Hah-hah-hah-hah Stayin' Alive!.......

ToastedTeacakes · 13/07/2013 22:42

Also nice with wedge heels!

I also prefer them not to be super skinny. Even with the best legs in the world you can't escape the sausage leg effect. Just opt for a slight slim leg - I love those cropped ones with a little zipper at the ankle. I have a pair from Oasis (cherry crops) and some from Primark which I sized up in. Really pleased with them both.

Add an embellished leather belt in tan or black? Button up shirts work well, too (checked, striped or oxford, etc). Most of all I prefer them with maroon or navy tops and accessories. There's just something so smart yet casual about them this way.
And don't worry about keeping them clean. Unless you are going to be in a messy situation I wouldn't get too hung up on that.

Definitely do some image searches.

CointreauVersial · 13/07/2013 23:19

It's a Yes from me.

They look best in slightly thicker denim imho. I have a great pair from Gap which I wear rolled to 7/8 length; they look really fresh and summery, and go with pretty much anything.

Sonotkylie · 14/07/2013 07:22

Oh yes, proper denim too - then you don't have to worry about what you're flashing and they have a bit more 'structure'

MrsCampbellBlack · 14/07/2013 07:26

Oh I love white jeans. And totally agree about nice thick denim and also sizing up.

I also prefer the slim leg rather than super skinnies.

I have a navy silk cami which looks lovely for going out with white skinnies. Also very much like them with pale silvery grey.

JemimaMuddledUp · 14/07/2013 10:14

Have decided they are definitely a keeper. Tried them on this morning rolled up a little with a denim shirt and some tan wedges and got approving comments from DS1, DS2 and DH. Must be good Grin

They aren't super skinnies, I have quite muscular calves so super skinnies would never fit!
