I am at the end of my first week in a new job and realise I need to go shopping this weekend to smarten up a bit! I am PA to the Head of an organisation. Suits not necessary but just not sure about what kind of smart summer skirt & top I need in an air conditioned office that is freezing. Any ideas and input gratefully appreciated.

I've just got a new temp job and have bought a few shift dresses! There seems to be a lot on sale and I like the fact they can be worn alone or with bolero cardi or short sleeved cardi which might work for you if office is air conditioned.

Second shift dresses - always smart and easy to wear. Make sure you get machine washable though (M&S usually old for them). Pencil skirts also good (although I personally feel they're not very flattering if I'm carrying extra weight, whereas shift dresses forgive my belly!)

If you can afford it, buying everything in one go will make good economic sense as you can make sure everything complements - tops that go with trousers and skirts, cardigans to match everything, scarves which can make the same dress feel like a different outfit etc. personal shoppers in department stores can be a great source of advice.
