Shorts that don't gape at the back. Do they exist?

I'm in desperate need of some shorts but every pair I've tried on are too big at the waist. Has anyone with the same problem found a perfect fitting pair?

Red herring high waisted ones have done the trick for me. They have several colours and were on 20% off offer last week.

I buy low rise ones for this reason. Much more forgiving for pear shapes I think.

I tried low rise, but end up with a gap between my top and the shorts. Not good for a 40-something.

I've avoided high waisted because i thought the problem woudl be worse, but maybe I should give them a go.
