Going to family wedding. Dh is the oldest of 8 so there are lotsss of younger people there. For each family wedding over the years I think I have felt good once. Every other time the dress was wrong, the shoes/accessories weren't right for me/the outfit. I just felt meh. Uncomfortable. Fuddy Duddy. Huge period of PND obviously not helped these feelings but now I am well, happy and sparkly me again. And I would really love to go to a wedding and enjoy it because I am not fretting about how I look.

So, about me
5'3"
Just over 10 stone
Size 10-12
Broad shoulders
Biggish Norks (32EE)
Barely there waist
Bum/legs OK.
Very pale - English rose/freckly
Dark brown, neck lenght curly hair (messy a la Meg Ryan in the 90s)
Blue eyes
Age 41.

Colours that suit me tend to be warmer ones - navy is good (but dull?) teal, purple, brown. I feel best (I think) in corally pinky kind of colours. But oh god these sound dull. I have not idea of current fashion, I live in jeans. I am fairly safe in my style (boring) and maybe this is why I end up feeling like the fusty one in the photos.

So please, please help me find something. I want to feel on trend again. Young. Sparkly (but not mutton). Just don't know where to start.

Thank you

I love the elise Ryan , did you buy it? If not I might!

FishfingersAreOK · 22/07/2013 13:19

OK, an update.

The dresses from ASOS (turquiose one shouldered and Elise Ryan lacy/mid-skater one) turned up and went. Both were OK. But the Elise Ryan one was a bit "shiny" for my liking. And Blush I could not do either of them up round my waist. My perennial problem being straight up and downy. size 10 mostly. But not the waist. Since DCs . Recently found a pic of me in a bikini when I was 21. OH wow - what a wasp waist. But hey ho. No more.

So have been hunting around for a few more options and today had delivered a couple of Isabelle Oliver dresses. PIcs on profile. DD (7) thinks both are lovely. I tend to agree. But now really I need to pin it down to which looks best.

So opinions please - the drape dress or the wrap dress? Your opinions gratefully received. And be as brutal as you like.

keeps quiet about another delivery due imminently

Ignore me, got the pink dresses mixed up.

primallass · 22/07/2013 13:27

Top one looks good. Might you be too hot with long sleeves though?

primallass · 22/07/2013 13:29

Is it this one? www.isabellaoliver.com/baukjen/uk/600/sale/dresses/DR484.html

I love it with a belt too, but have no waist so couldn't do that myself.

I like the wrap dress, I think it gives you a much more defined shape and the v-neck is much more flattering.

Casmama · 22/07/2013 13:31

Sorry I thought the top one was a wrap dress, that's the one I like.

FishfingersAreOK · 22/07/2013 15:05

I like the drapy one too...but d'you know there is sooooo much material I think I would boil (between you me and the gatepost the phrase hot flush seems to be apt) puts fingers in ears and goes lalalalalal So although it looks very flattering I think a red, sweaty face to match would not. And It is very sexy. But vamp-girl not necessarily what you want to aim for at a family wedding!

What do you think of the newest pic. Pretty, cotton, light, blue from White Stuff. I have a perfect linen jacket and navy wedges to go. Plus a gorgeous Hobbs clutch. Too casual? Or would it hit the mark?
