what on earth do you wear to nightclub in Tokyo?!

I am going to Tokyo next week and have just been told that we will be going to one smart restaurant and two famous night clubs (on different evenings). I live in my jeans and am not a night club person at the best of times. What on earth should I wear?!
I was thinking of a eveningy dress up or down shortish dress for the restaurant, shall I just double up for the night club? Here I would usually wear jeans and a pretty top and heels on a night out. presume that would be too casual/hot?
Have limited options- another nice dress, smart jeans and a eveningy top, or a playsuit I bought a couple of years ago in topshop.
I am TERRIBLE at dressing up and have NO experience of that part of the world so any advice gratefully received. TIA

Playsuit would work perfectly! With strappy heels and bare legs. Minimal jewellery, tiny bag and figure if possible A blazer or little cardigan would be fine for bars beforehand. Very girly and feminine, but stylish in Tokyo. Envy

Thank you. Blazer is a good idea, although I think it's going to be hot.
Better get packing!

How tall are you? I would factor in the fact that unless you are petite by western standards you are likely to feel quite strapping and so not wear massive heels. However I am very tall even in UK so perhaps I am over self conscious.

Be prepared for it to be baking hot in Tokyo at this time of year! Too hot for jeans for sure, take some loose fitting light trousers for comfort, would be my advice.

Depending on the numbers of folk in the nightclub, the aircon might be at it's limit so it might be hot there too. If you are going to a smart restaurant, I would say no bare shoulders for that. And yes, you might need to take your shoes off in the restaurant and sit on the floor (if it's a more traditional restaurant), so mind your skirt lengths for that!

I would say dress up! When I was in Tokyo I had been backpacking around Asia and felt seriously underdressed on nights out. amazinggg's suggestion of a playsuit and heels sounds good to me. Have an fantastic time!

All great advice. Thank you. Am 5' so hoping to feel vaguely normal in Japan! Wink
Hadn't thought about taking shoes off but not sure it would affect outfit anyway.
It's really going to be hot isn't it? Think I am sorted clothes wise. Thank you wise ladies.
