Hair colour at home - recommendations and help please!

I have got mid /dark brown hair with some blond highlights that have gone quite brassy in the sun. Grey is now appearing at alarming rate - and need to save some pennies so salon colouring out. Any recommendations? Need it to not go auburn (problem I've had with previous home colour). Thanks!

My best advice is to ALWAYS go at least a shade lighter than the first colour you pick. Home dyes almost always go darker than they show on the box.

I'm the same as you: need to cover highlights, colour goes orangey, a bit of grey. Ash colours counteract the brassiness, so I get either 7.1 or 6.1 ash brown by Loreal at hairdressers.
The annoying thing is that very few home hair dyes come in ash colours. John Frieda foam in 6A is one of them. Comes out dark brown but afrer a couple of washes its medium brown with no brassiness.
Good luck, let us know how you get on

Just before you do it put a layer of moisturiser on your skin around the hair line and on your ears.

Stops the staining. I once had a red ear,

Zelda I had a purple face onceSmile

Keep it conditioned well is my only advice for your hair. I'm not qualified but I did see someone suggest lighter shades (actually a very obvious and good idea thank youSmile)

I have found if I use my bleach with Morrisons Fruits Soak It Up Conditioner mixed in when I make it all up the entire operation is a lot smoother. And it smells mildly better and doesn't take away from the bleach itself. But this whole routine is for rebleaching my roots, after 29 mutinies running the mixture through my whole head to even the tone and get rid of any brassiness and afterwards I condition it thoroughly. When I rinse it. I then have to put my shade of blonde over everything but that doesn't bleach it just colours.
