Help! Getting married but have just broken my ankle. Please help me find a dress!

I can't believe the timing - I took a couple of days off work this week to go looking for a wedding dress, but ended up spending yesterday in A&E with a broken ankle after the school run went badly wrong! I'm home now but tearing my hair out at the fact that shopping is off for a bit. I have 6 weeks until I get married, and should hopefully be more or less mended by then, but I really need to find a dress! It's going to have to be an on-line search now and I have no idea where to look. Can anyone suggest any dresses/websites? Details: I'm 41, dark hair, pale skinned, hazel eyes, busty size 14, 5 foot 7 ish. It's an informal wedding, definitely don't need something uber posh, but want something lovely. I just don't know what! Thanks for any help Smile

What's your budget? I love Phase Eight's bridal range:

I wore the Mariette dress when I got married.

Hope your ankle is better soon!

Thanks! Probably not looking for something quite so wedding-dressy Doctor, tho they are lovely!

E bay not such a bad idea, thanks Theselittle - theres lots of nice Monsoon dresses (nicer that what Monsoon seems to have in stock at the mo anyway.)

I can't link from my phone, but have a look at the "Rose" dress on Coast's website - sort by "highest price first" and it's the second one on the page.

If I was getting married again (and sadly DH has refused to divorce and remarry me so I don't have the opportunity to), it's what I'd wear, and I'm a 5'8" busty size 14.

The champagne colour would be gorgeous with your colouring too.

TheBookofRuth · 02/07/2013 10:36

Ah, and I've just seen you're not looking for anything too wedding dressy. Damn.

OlderNotWiser · 02/07/2013 10:44

That is indeed very gorgeous TheBook Smile Poss too dressy for me. I know, its a wedding, but I'm such a jeans and t shirt girl normally I'm a bit cautious with dresses!!

I quite like this, tho it's no longer available in my size, but gives an idea of what I like perhaps. I'm prepared to be told I'm a frump of course!

Have you tried hiring at www.girlmeetsdress.com/ ?

It's got a good search function that allows you to filter by size, and a good 'advance try on' service.

OlderNotWiser · 02/07/2013 10:58

Thanks HotSoup, that looks interesting.

I got mine from here - they are lovely and 'weddingy' without being too 'weddingy'. If you get what I mean...

Very pretty label. Think I'm realising I want colour tho. What do people think of this? I do want something simple I guess: This

I reckon the two dresses you've picked are quite conservative (in terms of style and colour) - the following websites have sales on and look in your budget:

  • Hobbs (has a lot of dresses with a similar silhouette to what you're looking for)
  • Coast

You could also have a look at these websites (although they are possibly a bit too 'fashiony' for what you're looking for)

  • Reiss
  • Whistles

The House of Fraser website has lots of brands and a pretty good search function if you want to look there (I'd look under 'cocktail dresses' if you want to find something similar to what you've found already).

My MIL has brought this for her daughters wedding, it is absolutely stunning without being too fussy. The picture doesn't really do it justice. dress

OlderNotWiser · 02/07/2013 13:17

Thanks HotSoup, will investigate.

That is gorgeous whatsleep...sadly my legs are not special Sad

MIL is around 5 foot 2 and it sits just above her knee. I think the model is pretty tall!

TheCoast Jocasta dress is perfect for a wedding. There are some on eBay in various colours but the Champagne or Caramel would be most weddingy I imagine.
