Help me decide on a dress for an interview?

I'm 5"11 and size 12/14...the look I'm going for is mostly businessy with a hint of creativity (not too much though)

dress 1

dress 2

dress 3

What do you think?

No 3. Without question. It's fab.

The other 2 are not nice.

rubylovescheese · 28/06/2013 20:56

No 3. First two v casual none of them hint at creativity unless so subtle I've missed it.

FamiliesShareGerms · 28/06/2013 20:59

I rather like the second one, but it's more for doing the job rather than getting the job.

Last one needs some serious accessorising if you are aiming to show some creative flair

Thurlow · 28/06/2013 20:59

3, definitely. I'm tempted by that one myself at that price! If you did go for the other 2, what would you put over the top? 1 could be nice with the right jacket.

Frenchvanilla · 28/06/2013 21:00

That one was actually my least favourite...I don't like the belt

Frenchvanilla · 28/06/2013 21:02

What about this one? dress 4

OP posts:
rubylovescheese · 28/06/2013 21:03

Dull

Thurlow · 28/06/2013 21:03

I think 4 could look frumpy. Do you wear jewellery? Or maybe some colour to dress those up a bit?

Hadmeathello · 28/06/2013 21:05

I agree. Dress 3 by far the best.

eurozammo · 28/06/2013 21:06

Dress 3.

1 is too girly for an interview. 4 is dull. 2 could be ok, but could look mumsy if not styled right.

dontyouwantmebaby · 28/06/2013 21:09

another vote for dress 3.

thought dress 1 was just okaaaaay, not so keen on dress 2, perhaps photo doesn't do it justice.

think dress 4 would look fab with your height/size combo. would look stunning with some bright jewellery/accessories.

good luck for interview!

MrsSalvoMontalbano · 28/06/2013 21:12

Dress 3, and I want one too!

trinity0097 · 28/06/2013 21:14

All very black! When I think creative I do think a bit of colour!

Thurlow · 28/06/2013 21:22

There's some good dresses on sale in John Lewis at the moment, Hobbs, Damsel in Distress etc for about £50 that are very smart cuts but with some good colour in them?

Frenchvanilla · 28/06/2013 21:40

Ok. I think you're all right about no. 3.

Without being overly needy or anything, do you fancy helping me choose a scarf to go with it?

like the tigers, black is a negative

love the colours

nice but dull?

again, nice but dullish

OP posts:
frenchfancy · 28/06/2013 22:05

I like dress 3 but I think a scarf would spoil it.

mrspaddy · 28/06/2013 22:13

I wouldn't put a scarf with it. I am no expert but could you keep the dress as it is and wear a more funky shoe?

TooMuchRain · 28/06/2013 22:31

I like 2 best but 3 is smarter, not sure about the scarf though as I thought the zip was what made it look slightly different

Roshbegosh · 29/06/2013 08:49

3 no question, the M&S one is from the Utah sister wife collection. 1&2 too eveningey.

MaybeBentley · 29/06/2013 15:16

What do you mean by "Utah sister wife collection"? I ask because I quite like the M&S one with a bright cardi/jacket or scarf for work.

Frenchvanilla · 29/06/2013 18:06

I tried the fourth one on and it's ridiculously flattering for my figure- tall medium sized hourglass.

The "Utah" comment I think was because it looks a bit overly conservative in the picture. It's strength is in the huge flattery of the fit, though. It would look amazing with a nice necklace.

I've got an interview coming up and have just ordered the third dress thanks to this thread.

Should I wear it with a jacket/blazer? If so what colour would work?

What sort of necklace do you think would go with it FrenchVanilla?

MaybeBentley · 29/06/2013 18:59

Overly conservative suits my workplace and my age/figure! So I'll try it and see. Was thinking accessories to make it less plain, but as a "winter" I was told to get a few black dresses and struggled to find one that wasn't straight or too short.

Frenchvanilla · 29/06/2013 19:47

I have also ordered the third dress! Hope it brings us all luck.

Ordinarily I think something statementy would go well because it's so black. However, for interviews I go really conservative with jewellery. Understated gold/silver subtle chain pendant with stud earrings.

SugarSpunSisters · 29/06/2013 19:55

I liked dress number one Blush but I am only 5' 2", dress four would be too long.

I'd laugh if you were all going to the same interview Grin
