Ordering beauty products from US websites - anyone done it?

I have been thinking of ordering Paula's Choice products from the US website. Even adding on the $40 shipping it's still quite a bit cheaper and they have things on there that are not available on the UK site. However, does anyone know what happens when they reach the UK? How much can I expect to be charged by HMRC? Should I keep the order below a specific value?

You can check on the HMRC website - I think you get charged above £18 - you need to calculate whether the savings will be wiped out by the charges
