Flattering dresses that cover your knees?

Why do most summer dresses stop above the knee? Without being able to wear opaque tights, I struggle to find a summer dress to hide my less than perfect knees :-(

I am going to a smart event and a floaty maxi dress is not really an option.
Any suggestions?

I got two amazing little dresses sleveless, floaty, skim just below knee, tick all boxes... wait for it.... Matalan so bargainous as well. Have worn them to work already and had compliments
