6''1 - help me find a dress...

Hi, lovely ladies!

I am so impressed with all the advice given, so here goes my desperate plea...

we are christening our children in August, so would like to get an elegant dress. I ordered this one. Just tried it on - waist is sitting just underneath my boobs... Yet again... Returning it tomorrow.

I am getting a bit desperate, so could anyone point me in the right direction where to look for a decent knee length dress?

I am 32, 6''1, around size 12.

Thank you

I'm almost your height.

Do you have a decent Tk Maxx near you? Often loads of great stuff for us tall folk, so long as you have time to have a good sort through.

DragonTwins · 20/06/2013 17:51

Thank you Snowandsunshine for suggestion. There is one of decent size in town nearby and to be honest, I am looking around it every second week unfortunately with two 1 year olds in tow... So probably miss all good bargains. And that was the reason why it started getting so frustrating as I cannot find anything that suits...

Oh, the missing link is this. probably well over budget but very nice.

Passthecake30 · 20/06/2013 20:28

Next tall have lots of dresses in atm?

DragonTwins · 20/06/2013 21:14

Wow, MrsLettuce, that's some food for thought.
Love the color in print one. Would like to try it on as I've never owned a wrap dress.
I like simple one best, but could be lighter - it will be pretty hot as not in UK. So sleeves are out as well.
Red is lovely
Tea dress - a bit casual
Size 10? I wish :) I am more like a big 12 :)
Read some reviews about the red and next dress. Again the same problem - waste line is just too high. A lot of tall clothing is not made in proportion - adding length does not solve the problem.
What do you think about this one? I would still have time to work on my post twin pregnancy tummy, but I think I am near enough.

Oih, love it! Great choice.

Spanx are always handy

DragonTwins · 20/06/2013 21:30

I might give it a try!
Thanks MrsLettuce for great ideas!

Not a problem I have shortarse but my tall friends love this site: it's about style for everyone, but regularly includes blogs about dresses for tall women: www.domesticsluttery.com/search/label/tall%20girls

Totally not what you are looking for but Me & Em have a ruched waist maxi dress (which I've just bought in dark moss) which is super long
I'm 5ft9ins and it's dragging on the floor even on my tip toes. I love it though so will be taking it up.

Callycat - thank you! That is a fab website. Sorry for hijacking op I'm just very grateful for any help in getting 'tall' clothes!

Dontlikepink · 22/06/2013 00:04

For Christening you might like something like this or this here . Look at all dresses

susiefen · 22/06/2013 08:38

Have you looked at Topshop tall? There is a special section on their website and some of the reviews of the dresses are by people of your height. Most look as if they may fall just above the knee, but might be worth a try. Or you can search on Next website for Tall dresses here as they do a lot of dresses in both Tall and Petite.
I feel your pain though. I'm 3 inches shorter than you and I've given up trying to find anything with a waist as it just sits too high. Bodycon midi dresses are working quite well though - quite a few in New Look, but maybe a bit casual for what you want?

DragonTwins · 22/06/2013 17:37

Callycat thanks for the link. Found a few interesting things.

Chocolate that is a really lovely dress. Maybe not for the occasion I am looking for, but it looks great. How about sizing? Does that ruched bit sit on your hips nicely?

Dontlikepink that you for the links, I would go for something like that of jacket and skirt combo if it was in cooler season. Expected to be 30+ degrees. I'm starting sweating just thinking about it...

I have bought couple of pairs of bootcut jeans in Topshop from their Tall range. Not great fit, but ok. I will have to see what else they have in Tall in our local shop.

Actually in the past I've bought dresses from regular height range and just wore them as empire waist ones :) A bit of desperate option, but it worked on a few occasions :)

Thank you, ladies :)
