Would you wear one of those jersey midi skirts if you were me?

I've been looking at these style skirts but I'm not sure if they'll do me any favors or not? I'm 5"6 and a 12-14. I'm an hourglass so I have a reasonably small waist but I do carry some flab excess weight on my hips and I'm worried the stretchy skirt will draw attention to this! Matalan have this fishtail one which I fancied too but I'm not sure if I'd look frumpy! I'd be wearing them with ballet flats and a T-shirt if it helps!

Ach. Floor length yes, ,I'd calf length no.

Can you find a floor length one? I have one from ghost and am also hourglass and it is always a quick win to looking good,

But mid calf? Never.

Trills · 16/06/2013 11:36

I wouldn't wear one if I were me.

WildThongsHeartString · 16/06/2013 11:38

trills so who are you?

Trills · 16/06/2013 11:41

Right now I am Trills - I am a virtual wordsonnascreen person - I don't have legs so can't wear skirts at all :o

Trills · 16/06/2013 11:42

The fishtail one is actually knee-length (at the front at least), which I think looks fine.

I am not a fan of calf-length anything.

NoGoodAtHousework · 16/06/2013 11:44

I'm 5'8 and about a 16. I have a jersey maxi (like the first one but floor length). I wear with leggings (shorter ones) for comfort and also make me feel a little bit better about any lumps! I love it. I think it was from primark. Absolute steal!

docket · 16/06/2013 12:10

I think the fishtail one is ok. Annoying mid-length is a no-no for me. I know they are supposedly 'in' at the moment but I really don't think they flatter.

OneLittleLady · 16/06/2013 12:12

mid length is out for me as I'm only five foot. I have a couple of ruched, shorter, as in just on/above the knee, jersey skirts and they are lovely and flattering. I'm also an hourglass shape.

cocolepew · 16/06/2013 12:14

The fishtail one yes, but not a straight one.

Keztrel · 16/06/2013 12:54

Your figure sounds lovely but I wouldn't wear those skirts even if I was 5'10" and size 8. I just don't think calf length and tight jersey looks good. I quite like those floaty pleated calf length skirts though, with a tshirt and a leather jacket.

NutellaLawson · 16/06/2013 13:01

If you're heavy around the thighs, I'd avoid the clinginess of the jersey (ditto for anything bias cut) as it may just emphasis the width at the hips and ten narrowness at the knee.

This goes times 100 if you have saddlebags.

If it's just that your hips are wide (as in the pelvis is wide, rather than it's your body's preferred fat storage zone) then it would look lovely on an hourglass.

charitygirl · 16/06/2013 18:03

I wear them - even with flats!!! - and I'm 5'8 and a size 12. No one seems to have vomited n horror and I love the look with a boxy jumper.

charitygirl · 16/06/2013 18:10

Would add that I don't think it matters if you're heavy of thigh BUT a few squats and lunges* can't hurt, to reduce jiggle!

*not necessarily while wearing skirt...

SayMama · 17/06/2013 11:35

Thank you for all the comments! I think I'm going to have to go and have a try on. My legs are quite nice (how full of myself do I sound? Did I mention the hips? The huge flabby hips!!!)

They just seem so versatile but if they don't suit (and it sounds like they might not!) Then their's not much point!
