I have a Summer dance later this month and nothing I own fits anymore Sad

I've seen these two dresses and I like them and have a choice of shoes and bags to go with them but are they very dull?

I'm a size 12/14 but only 5ft (and a very important bit!) with terrible knees that must be covered. I'm 38 if that makes a difference

I'm at the age old stage of I will not be this size forever so don't really want to spend more than these kind of prices.

I suspect they are very dull so if anyone has any other suggestions they are very welcome Smile

I like the first one but agree pretty safe options.

What about something vintagey

Or lady v

ChocolateCremeEggBag · 13/06/2013 18:48

I like the first one, but I'd change the black belt for a brighter colour to make it a bit more interesting?

this Lady V dress is a bit more wow if the colours work for you? But they have lots of more muted shades. Depends what your colouring is?

this one in red would look stunning too you could wear a black shrug if you weren't keen on showing arms?

Bunbaker · 13/06/2013 18:56

I think the first one is lovely. A light coloured dress on you might make you look a little larger than you actually are, so I wouldn't go for dress 2.

ToastedTeacakes · 13/06/2013 19:14

I love the spotty one, it's very chic and summery. navy is always the best IMO!
I also don't think either of them are remotely dull. What constitutes dull anyway? The first one especially strikes me as rather classy and fun at the same time, which is far from dull. Perhaps you mean a shorter dress (like those effin ugly skater crap things) would look more current? Well no! Haha. I like your taste.

blibblibs · 13/06/2013 19:58

Thank you Toasted, don't think anyone else likes my style, tis very dull.
And navy is my favourite colour and 90% of my current wardrobe.

Can't do above the knee so would never look at skater type things. Was thinking maybe a more 'current' print, whatever that may be!

I do like the Lady V dresses linked above but I'm scared the fuller skirt would just make me look fuller? And shorter. The red one is lovely but maybe a bit dressier than is required.

Spotty looking like the best so far but any other suggestions much appreciated.

HofF sale is on so what about this

www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Therapy+Pleat+panel+dress/178760667,default,pd.html

or will it just make me look like a little tent Blush
(only just over 5ft so will be past knees)

Sorry, but that dress is deeply unflattering, shapeless and not dressy enough for a dance.

Hippychickster · 14/06/2013 18:37

I really like both the dresses in your op. I don't like the house of fraser one I'm afraid, but the first two are not dull at all!

HaPPy8 · 14/06/2013 20:19

I like the first two m and co ones but not the last one. I dont think they are dull either, they are nice.

PollyLogos · 14/06/2013 20:33

I've got the boat print one but in a different fabric (from M and Co a few years ago) It's very flattering and I always get compliments when I wear it!

Lucylloyd13 · 16/06/2013 07:38

The boat print for me.

Don't like the BHS one, it reminds me of my MIL, who is lovely but only ever wears calf length busy floral dresses. And the HoF one is quite hideous with those weird yellow pleats.

I like the first two you linked OP, you can never go wrong with navy + polka dots or nautical things IMHO!

Keztrel · 17/06/2013 14:55

And I agree with you OP re the lady V dresses - stunning but scarily full skirts, especially when you're petite!

blibblibs · 17/06/2013 14:58

I tried on the HoF dress at the weekend and it was quite hideous.

The polka dot one is nice but I feel its very safe a little dull and maybe a bit ageing.

Its the one my DH prefers and most people here but....

dont like the boat one,but i dont like anything with boats on i think they are aging and the whole nautical thing is a bit overdone?

First one is nice.
