Need a new bag for starting uni - I'm old

I'm cough 36. So needs to be something not too fashionable as I'll look a complete fool, I am already worried Im going to be the 'mum' of the class!

Please help me..I'm not a designer handbaggy type.... :(

Needs to be big enough for books etc, I like the backpack style, but I dunno, I'm not a sporty type so are they are out?. I get a bit stressed out with shopper bags with no zip or closing thing, purse might get nicked etc.....

I might possibly buy a laptop tablet thingy too so maybe needs to be big enough for that, but thats not essential.

I haven't seen anything that fits the bill.

I hope your classmates will not make you feel like the mum of the class, we have a student who is about ten years older than you on my course and she fits in amazingly, everyone loves to chat with her, she's in on all the jokes etc :)

Probably not at all practical but I'm thinking of getting this for my final year, hopefully starting in October, might be a bit too fashionable for your brief though. The lovely lady on my course has a shoulder bag/satchel type thing made of a waterproof fabric, I will see if I can find something similar.

Really just go for whatever style of bag you like and suits your style and will be comfy for carrying your books, laptop etc. as you're really not that old and there will probably be a whole bunch of people turning up to lectures in their pyjamas and Uggs!

36 isn't old! Have a look at the longchamp bags

They come in a variety of sizes. The one I have is medium I think, and just the right size for A4 folders etc. They're also pretty hard wearing which will be helpful at uni where you're having to crunch it up under your seat etc and although it's a shoulder bag it does zip shut.

Yessss, listen to Persuasion (fave book, btw ). Longchamps are fab and wear well and won't look like poop by the start of the spring semester.

Lngchamp bags are in the sale at Selfridges at the moment. £30-£40.

It's not cheap but I love this, would be big enough for books, laptop, lunch etc. and looks classy! I agree 36 isn't old and I'm very jealous of you going back to uni, wish I had the guts to...

Thanks all for the suggestions, and being nice to me!!... Just feeling a bit self conscious about being with lots of young'uns who are thin and cool etc.
Not sure about the longchamp style... I'm more of a cross body strap kinda gal. . The River Island one is nice and capacious looking though..

This isn't the bag my friend has but seen a few similar ones on campus and does look practical.
