Hi
I thought I had decided on my dress...But have fallen head over heels with this
www.temperleylondon.com/shop/trends/Balanchine_Dress_18541

My problem is - I am having a totally informal civil wedding, with a buffet reception... I fear this is really too much?
Or worst case I could look like a magicians assistant!!

Please help x

Its your wedding - you will never look over dressed!
And that is a gorgeous dress - I want it!

BunnyLebowski · 12/06/2013 16:57

Its ok. But doesn't look like it costs £500. And polyester lining??

I have seen many many much nicer tea length wedding dresses for half that money online!

Bue · 12/06/2013 16:59

That dress is informal! I mean, it's Temperley informal, so still glamorous, but that fact that it is short automatically makes it perfect for a more casual wedding.

Agree with Bue, as it's short, it won't look overly formal. Am also aghast and the cost considering the material used!

But it is a lovely dress. What will you wear in you hair, if anything?

ShinyPenny · 12/06/2013 17:03

I like it and I don't think you would look overdressed. :)

redfairy · 12/06/2013 17:05

It's beautiful and I love the gold embroidery. Excellent choice OP!

GaryBuseysTeeth · 12/06/2013 17:06

I think it's lovely & no way OTT for an informal wedding!
Personally, I don't like the sleeve length but aside from that it's beautiful, what sort of shoes/accessories would you wear with it (I'd keep everything else simple because of all the detail).

I married in similar circumstances (but a restaurant instead of a buffet) & wore this dress (not my eBay listing!), didn't feel like a lemon at all and fits in the wardrobe Grin

fairlytiredtonight · 12/06/2013 17:07

You sound exactly like me. I had a last minute change of heart recently and bought a new dress and am thinking exactly the same thing - am I going to look overdressed? However, I do think you should bear in mind that this is (hopefully) the only time you are getting married so you should absolutely go for it!

Madamecastafiore · 12/06/2013 17:08

Are you waif like?

I think won't look great otherwise. Is beautiful dress though.

Bue · 12/06/2013 17:08

GaryBusey that is very pretty!

frissonpink · 12/06/2013 17:09

It's beautiful :) (does seem expensive though for the fabric/composition etc) but it is stunning, love it.

Not OTT at all! I'm wearing a formal gown and we are having a reception in a village hall! I don't care!

Wear what the hell you like I say, it's your day and you're the star!

chartreuse · 12/06/2013 17:09

It's perfect, you will look beautiful Smile

willyoulistentome · 12/06/2013 17:13

Its lovely on the model in the pics. But I do think you would need to be very thin to get away with it. Plus the creaminess of the colour might be a bit wishy washy depending on your colouring. I hate the model's shoes.

Badvoc · 12/06/2013 17:15

I think it's lovely but a bit pricey for what it is.
Have you checked out coast and monsoon?

AndIFeedEmGunpowder · 12/06/2013 17:17

It's your wedding. Go for it! It's a stunning dress

TolliverGroat · 12/06/2013 17:18

It's fine for an informal wedding.

lotsofboats · 12/06/2013 17:18

Awwww! Thank you all! I really appreciate it. I feel unconfident in my choices..

I echo the shock of the cost! (but I actually got it half price, which is bad enough!) Other wise I wouldn't have it :-)

I am not waif like though , 5ft 4 size10. brunette I will wear nude heels with plain vintage glass jewellery.
I think just glossy hair, and simple make up.

I ordered it because I decided this is probably my one chance to wear something like this - My lifestyle doesn't involve much glamour tbh!

I think you will look lovely in it.

GaryBuseysTeeth, That is a lovely dress too, thanks for sharing :-)

It is an utterly fabulous dress and I hope you have a wonderful day.

mrspaddy · 12/06/2013 17:23

Absolutely beautiful. Many Congratulations !

willyoulistentome · 12/06/2013 17:23

In that case it will work beautifully. Congrats and enjoy the day.

piprabbit · 12/06/2013 17:23

If you are a size 8, you can get it for less than £250 here

mignonette · 12/06/2013 17:24

That is not too much at all. If you know you will feel wonderful in it then that should be an answer.

Wearing it with heavy virgin veil would be a clash of styling but not with a great shoe. I love a shorter dress at a wedding-very chic. Look at Keira!
