Nurses/midwives/HVs/social workers etc - what do you wear to job interviews?

It's been so long! I wore my uniform last time Blush

What do you all wear? I want professional but approachable and preferably things that can be worn in more everyday fashion if styled differently. Any ideas?

A dress. :)
Good luck.

Smart but soften it up with a nice bit of jewellery/scarf etc. Something you feel good in is the most important thing. if you feel uncomfortable you won't perform very well.

trouser suit or similar - dress and jacket sometimes
i would suggest that although you'll be doing a job where you'll often be in considerably more casual dress (i sometimes wear jeans to the office), you need to demonstrate that you can dress appropriately for the occasion eg if called to give evidence in court

Dress and jacket here. I did have a suit, but it wasn't me. Smart dress, tights, low heeled shoes, and a smart jacket and bag was what I went with. Cost me a tenner as I just had to buy the dress!

Last time I wore a smart skirt and jumper. I've never worn a dress or a suit and certainly for nursing, unless it's a managerial post, it's not expected. As long as you make an effort to look smart, have professional looking hair/make up/nails etc then I'm sure you'll be fine. Having interviewed for nursing posts I am far more interested with what they say than wht thy are wearing but I do like to see someone that you can tell has put one thought into it.

If I went for an interview in the near future I would wear cropped trousers, heels and a blouse.

Thanks! I hate being all gussied up but it's a tough field now and I don't think cardigans cut it any more, glad you all seem to agree. I'll have to go shopping!

A bought a very boring suit from next. Got the job :)

ElBombero · 10/06/2013 22:42

.... And good luck!

I wore a smart dress, some heels of reasonable size that matched and a cardigan but ended up carrying it as thought i looked smarter without. I was 21 and they cared or the answers to the questions than how I looked, I think!

I got the job.

I always go for smart casual-a dress with a cardigan and flats, trousers with a 'nice' read dull top. No suits, super high heels or heavy makeup. Essentially I wear what I wear on the job-therapist-but try and look a bit more groomed than normal!
