Dying reddish hair blonde

My ds is thinking of putting blonde highlights in her reddish / darker than strawberry blonde hair. I want to know if this is true oh wise Mumsnetters ........she went for a consultation and was told that they can only use one type of dye for people with red hair.

Mine is auburn and I have had blonde highlights on and off for 15 years now. I have to have it lifted with bleach first then a toner applied. Looks an though and always makes me smile.

I've had blonde highlights in before and wasn't aware of any product restrictions.

I have a lot of red in my hair naturally and putting bleach on top of it turns it orange

I won't pretend to know the reason but mines been done at anywhere from a college hair salon to Toni and Guy and they've all done the same. Like a two step process.

I have been able to go darker without peroxide, but not lighter.

How long is her hair?

Mine is light brown. I asked my hairdresser this week if I could go blonde and she said it wouldn't suit my colouring - she's given me a very light ginger all over, but as my hair is pixie-cut she said that highlights would be a waste of money as 2 weeks later they'd be very patchy.
