Sandals to see my swollen pregnant feet through the summer

I commute to work on the tube, I walk a good distance every day at work - I'm dreading being pregnant all summer.

I have seen the following sandals:

HP Rosebud
HP Faith
HP Ceylon
Merrell Jacardia

Which are the least offensive and most likely to cope with swelling do you think?

The HP ones are all grim as fuck. Sorry! I like the merrel ones. But none of them offer much adjustment across the top of your feet, which is what you will need as your feet swell. Do you need sandals with backs? Can you wear sandals with a toe post? When will you be wearing them (work, casual, going out)?

I have Birkenstock Mayari. They take a bit of wearing in but I walk and drive in them and apart from the bit over your big toe are fully adjustable.

Birkenstock Madrids... I lived in them when pregnant.

Fairylea · 05/06/2013 21:46

Also meant to add ideally you want something with no straps across the foot so you can just slip them on without bending!

justmuddlingalong · 05/06/2013 21:46

I would second Birkenstocks. My feet swell to hobbit size proportions when abroad on holiday Blush and so I always take a few pairs of them.

PseudoBadger · 05/06/2013 21:47

They are grim I know! But they felt comfy when I stroked them in Jones today.... :o

I have these Birkenstocks but I need the strap so tight to keep them on that they hurt with even just a little swelling.

I need them for work mainly. And would prefer ones with backs to complement the Birks

But yes the Madrids might be better

oh please, do not buy any of the ones you linked

they are foul

Birkenstocks are the way to go

PseudoBadger · 05/06/2013 21:52

In a completely non-outing myself way... Would you judge a rather pregnant council worker inspecting your premises on a hot day wearing Birkenstocks?

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 05/06/2013 21:53

no

AnyFucker · 05/06/2013 21:54

I would judge those monstrosities you linked to though Smile

PseudoBadger · 05/06/2013 21:54

Ok then!

Buy some fitflops. They are sooo comfy and are actually pretty.

The shoes you linked to are really grim. The fitflops are surprisingly supportive (my feel normally can't cope with backless shoes).

scratchandsniff · 05/06/2013 22:00

I lived in Birkenstock Gizeh last summer when pregnant. I'm sorry but all those sandals you linked are horrible. There has to be a nicer alternative out there. Do Clarks have anything?

bonzo77 · 05/06/2013 22:01

The Mayari are much easier to keep on than the gizeh. I cannot wear gizeh at all, even very tight. The Mayari are fine even very loose. I cannot manage the fit flops due to lack of adjustment, and the regular flip flop arrangement makes me claw my toes. In fact just the same as the gizeh.

PseudoBadger · 05/06/2013 22:02

Ok ok they're horrid yes I know! I've deleted them from my history and my memory :o
And I'll stick with my Gizeh and perhaps get some Madrids too.

Birkies can look very smart (well not lawyer smart but ok for office-y) if worn in a black or patent black / brown with well tailored linen trousers and a linen jacket with a cami underneath.

Fitflops.... not so much. Sorry.

But if you are pregnant and hot and swollen (!) I doubt anyone would be nasty enough to judge if you turned up in a sheet :)

PseudoBadger · 05/06/2013 22:04

I'll try the Mayari on but I'm worried there might be one too many straps for swelling.

I think most things in Clarks are offensive scratchandsniff :o And Fitflops too
But what do I know.....
