Thinking about treating myself. Ideas gratefully received, equally ones to avoid too.
Was thinking about a shampoo bar but reviews are very mixed.

their cleansers etc make me break out which is very rare for me

TwoNoisyBoys · 04/06/2013 22:14

Whoknows....I use Rub Rub Rub as a shampoo, rather than a body scrub, as I'd use handfuls of it if I did! as a shampoo, its lovely....only need a tiny bit, and even less for the second shampoo. The salt in it rinsed out really easily, and it leaves your hair squeaky clean, and with a bit of volume. Smile

Sorry for all spelling mistakes, first time I've posted from my phone Grin

I would love samples- do u just walk in and ask for samples?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 04/06/2013 22:50

Two - I shall try it in the morning and report back. Do you use conditioner afterwards?

Henrietta - I normally go in and start looking at stuff, usually someone will come and ask if they can help you, if not just go up to the counter and ask if they've got a cleanser for greasy skin or a conditioner for flyaway hair etc, they often offer a sample, if not just ask for one, I've never had any problems.

Does anyone remember Lush's predecessor, Cosmetics To Go? I still miss their neroli hair perfume and flicking through the lovely catalogue with my school friends. It was mail order back then. Think some of the products made it through to Lush days. Simpler times :)

Grass shower gel. Actually smells like freshly mown lawn. If you don't have hayfever it's glorious.

Foot scrub fabulous for getting rid of dry cracked heels. The only thing is you have got to keep using it or the cracked heels come back. But the foot shaped scrub does last ages you only need a tiny bit at a time.

Ro's Argon Body Conditioner

A lazy lovely way to moisturise!!

My daughter and I love the non glitter bath bomba but find it expensive to use one or half a one each time. We keep a small grater in the bathroom to use soley for grating a bomb into the bath! You only need to grate a small amount to get the wonderful aroma of the bomb to fragrance you whole bath.

We use the shampoo bars on holiday.

Vanillary is very strong but I love a strong sillage, so enjoy the vanillary fragrance and products.

The fresh face masks are lovely.

The massage bars are very good.

Most of the soaps are lovely but a few smell foul. I tend to buy the soaps just to put in wardrobes and drawers as its lovely opening a drawer and smelling them.

Riojabotherer, yes I was an original cosmetics to go customer. Loved the products they did back then, more so than Lush if I am honest.

They did eyeshadows in small individual triangles that you fitted into a round box like a wheel, they were fantastic, deeply pigmented colours. I had a blackcurrant lipstick which sounds very gothic but was beautiful.

ArcticRoll · 05/06/2013 10:19

riojabotherer-I loved Cosmetics to Go !-loved their catalogue-probably loved them more than lush now as I'm now not in their target market but was for Cosmetics to Go.(middle aged and prefer Space NK now!)

SundaySimmons · 05/06/2013 10:28

Cosmetics to go had an egg conditioner in a huge bottle, like a big milk bottle! It was white or cream liquid and smelt divine. Also they had a bubble bath, again in a massive bottle which was violet scented, just heaven.

I used to take the mail order brochure into work when i worked locally and we would make one massive order between us and when delivered I would take the stuff in and see what we all had bought. Can't say my boss was too pleased but we were all female and he was male so he was out numbered!

I remember CTG too, it was so different to anything else at the time. I remember a bar of soap like honeycomb and bath bombs.

Did my hair with Jasmine and henna fluff eaze followed by Rub Rub Rub and my usual (non Lush) conditioner, it feels fabulous.

TwoNoisyBoys · 05/06/2013 14:33

Whoknows Yep, use conditioner afterwards, just use as a normal shampoo Smile

I have used Angels on Bare Skin and Ultrabland for years and years, they are my must-have products. Nothing compares.

Also love:

All of the massage bars (I don't get massages but use them for moisturising after baths when my skin is all warm)
Roots hair and scalp conditioner (I leave it on overnight, fab stuff)
Celestial moisturiser - very simple, lovely cream
Aqua Mirabilis / Buffy / You Snap the whip / King of Skin - these are all in-shower skin treatments, the first three exfoliate and moisturise, KoS is more of a skin conditioner
The Olive Branch - DP's favourite shower gel, I like it too
Full of Grace facial serum bar - wonderful
Karma Kream body lotion - I always get compliments on the scent when I wear this. Plus it makes skin feel beautiful.

I don't really get on with the hair products other than Big shampoo, which is brilliant but not for everyday use. I buy the shampoo bars every so often in the hope they'll work for me (definition of insanity, anyone?), they never do, but I live in hope because I so love the concept of packaging-free shampoo!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 05/06/2013 17:58

I had the Full of Grace bar last year, it was nice, the only reason I didn't replace it was that I bought Argan oil for my hair which did nothing for it so I am using that up on my skin instead, might get another Full of Grace when it's all gone.

I've never found THE shampoo or conditioner in Lush, the occasional stuff (masks and henna) are the ones for me. I am working my way though the Dr Organic range from Holland and Barrett, those are great products too.

riojabotherer · 05/06/2013 19:14

CTG always packaged things up in a lovely way, too. I'm quite nostalgic sitting here remembering rooting through the bits of shredded paper to find my new goodies! Lord knows how we even came to know about CTG back then without the internet!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 05/06/2013 19:36

I think I probably read about it in a magazine and sent off for the catalogue. Those were the days!
