I recently had my hair cut and highlighted using a Groupon voucher - it has turned out a disaster. It's dry, brittle and the highlights are too harsh and bleachy for my skin tone which is pale with olivey yellow tones. I think I now just looked washed out.

Natural hair colour is brown with wirey greys appearing at the roots!

My friend has similar natural hair colour to me and has always dyed it a lovely goldeny colour all over. I would love something similar but am wondering what the maintenance would be like with regrowth, greys etc?

Also, is it possible to dye it an all over lighter colour at home or would it have to be regular hairdressr trips? What should I ask for ie a tint, semi perm or perm?

Any advice gratefully received as it's getting me doen looking like a scarecrow!!

I'd start by trying to get your hair back into good condition before you think of colouring again. Lots of deep conditioning masks, gentle, non drying shampoos, lay off the heat treatments (if you use them) as much as possible.

Once you've got your hair in better condition, I'd go to a hairdressers and ask what can be done to remedy the colour you have now. Home colour can wait until you find the right shade/s for your skin tone

That's good advice thank you. I don't know what they did as I've had highlights before and my hair has never felt like this, it is like straw, feels horrid!!

I'm not sure really, there could have been a problem with the mix they used on your hair. I know when I've had too much peroxide on mine it's gone like straw. best thing you can do is try and get it back to a decent condition. I really think colouring would be a bad idea until the condition of your hair has improved Smile
