where to find a classic black shirt dress

Hi,
i saw a young woman wearing a fab short sleeved black shirt dress today- i kick myself for not asking where she got it from. I trawled the shops at lunchtime but no luck. Can anyone suggest who might be stocking it this season? Looked like linen, possibly cotton, knee length. Thanks.

I have my eye on this

yes that's really , really nice. I've just been over to La Redoute and they have a few black shirt dresses. I think that particular one will be too long for me- i'm a titch , but this one in black is promising

That's lovely. I'm quite in to the slightly fuller skirts - so flattering and means I can leave the spanx in the drawer! Is it just me or are smart/work dresses often really blooming clingy?

Plumo does a rather lovely one:

very nice, but bit too casual for what i had in mind, looks perfect for holidays though.

p.s yes! why is it that so many 'work' dresses are clingy ? or a shift shape that really only suits the very slim. More variety please work wear designers.

Hobbs have a beautiful navy one, can't justify it myself but really wish I could Smile

Shifts are awful on me - they're either too tight or hanging off my boobs. Or both simultaneously. Just no.

bishboschone · 04/06/2013 19:15

I wasn't looking for a black shirt dress but that Hobbs one is lovely !

showerhead · 04/06/2013 20:28

they are both very nice, but both sadly out of my price range.

Ideally i'd like one with a collar that falls open naturally or lapels (so more of a blouse style) however i did customise a blue shirt dress a few years ago by turning the stiff collar into a grandad style one by chopping it down and also sewing part of the lapels back. Sounds awful but looks fine and feels much better on me . I'm not a seamstress at all so if i can do it anyone can. Obviously some people look / feel great with collars up high- just not me.
