Clay pigeon shooting......what do I wear?

Never been. Im having a lesson with a load of beginners and experienced shooters. It's not in a field but on hard floor. Going this month. In winter I'd wear jeans, River boots and a jacket of sorts....boots on June?

Just wear normal outdoor clothes jeans, trainers etc.

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 04/06/2013 06:26

Jeans will be fine. Labrador/cap/hairy olive jacket not required.

Drywhiteplease · 04/06/2013 07:09

So trainers? Really? It's footwear that's got me.
No cap Sad!

If it were me I would wear jeans, saw short boots and you need some form of cushioning on your shoulder for the kickback from the gun. If warm a t shirt and gilet?

Incapinka · 04/06/2013 07:28

And sunglasses! (Hopefully!)

Barbour - or waterproof jacket with a LOT of pockets. This isn't the time for handbags. Waterproof shoes - either field boots or hiking boots. Cords rather than denim.

My husband goes all the time, most the time just trainers. It's not all toffs Wink

freddiefrog · 04/06/2013 10:05

I go with my Dad sometimes, outdoors though

I just wear jeans, hoodie/tshirt and walking boots. A coat if it's cold.

PigletJohn · 04/06/2013 10:51

I'd say floppy or soft hat as you will be outside and sun may be strong. A sturdy top, jacket or jumper will be more comfortable for your shoulder, though you need to hug the gun and lean into it.

sturdy or walking boots will be appropriate as you are unlikely to be confined to manicured lawns. Sun glasses in your bag and rain jacket. Insect repellent.

Get some ear plugs. I said ear plugs. EAR PLUGS!

but see if you can borrow some ear defenders which are better.

Choccywoccydodah · 04/06/2013 15:48

Yes, second the earplugs, although if it's a lesson, all the kit should be provided.
Re the hard floor, most places my husband (and sometime I) go have hard standing pathways or platforms where you shoot from, so solid footwear is not essential, obviously not heels!
We go to Edge Hill, Normanton, Barby, and one near the welsh border (west midlands shooting I think it is), and all have hard standings, no grass where you actually stand to shoot, or that you walk on to get to where you shoot.

Drywhiteplease · 05/06/2013 22:46

Oh Choccy sounds exactly like where were going. It's hard floor not a field.
I don't have cords.
Thanks for all your ideas and ear plug recommendation Pigletjohn
( btw Pigletjohn I was told you are the person to ask about plumbing!)

Loafers on feet?
