what lurks beneath your maxi dress?

I'ma bit on the err, chunky side and find dresses and skirts uncomfortable unless I wear leggings/tights underneath them. I'm considering investing in a couple of maxi dresses for the summer but I just wanted to check, it acceptable to wear leggings under a maxi dress? Or is that weird?

Am I abnormal for just wearing undies under mine as in bra and knickers???

It wasn't until I came on mn that I realised it is not that unusual either...

It's probably why knickers often used to be practically knee length in the old days when everyone wore dresses / skirts and why people always wore tights / stockings even in summer.
