I need some prescription sunglasses. Please help!

I have come to the conclusion that I shall have to get some prescription sunglasses, the problem is I like oversized sunglasses, the proper Jackie O style, but small regular glasses. Is there a shop that does big prescription sunglasses for not very much at all? I'm fed up of either squinting as I walk in my normal glasses, or walking into things in my sunglasses.

You can get frames as cheap as £15. Its the lenses that will cost you the money. Mine are £99 + whatever frame I choose.

Large lenses will cost you money, the present fashion for small glasses isn't an accident.

Also all, but the lowest prescriptions get thicker at the edges very noticeably with frame size. Posh high refractive index lenses are ££££, not worth it for sun glasses.

I got mine last year at Specsavers when they were doing a bogof so as I needed new glasses anyway I got the sunglasses for free. Might be worth checking around for offers like that.

Thank you, I will pop into boots and specsaver. I got my normal glasses on a BOGOF, I have a pair for going out (they are far smarter and funkier) and a pair for lazing around (plastic, super comfy). I got them from boots.

I got mine on BOGOF from specsavers and it's revolutionised my life - now all I'm waiting on is regular sunshine.

n.b., it's probably revolutionised the lives of innocent pedestrians too.

I got some really nice, Big prescription sunglasses recently from Specsavers, they were £69 but I got them half price with their 'golden ticket' deal thingy.

Just buy some sunglasses you like the look of and take them into an out of town (industrial estate type opticians are your best bet, and probably cheapest) get them to reglaze to your own prescription and tint to your requirements.

I'm a liability without my glasses now, plus, I bruise like a bloody peach. Summers are spent rubbing zambuc on my poor legs and arms as I try to embrace any feeble attempt at sunshine.

My last pair were from Specsavers. They're very similar to the ones on Lolas link. They're pretty big (not oversize though I wouldn't say). Definitely give Boots a try. I think I'll be getting my next pair there as they have a better choice than Specsavers for fashionable ones imo.

My specsavers were a 2 for 1 deal - I got one pair normal specs one pair of sunnies.

I got 2 for 1 on Boots on massive brown Jackie O's this week for 79 quid.

I find Boots better quality than Specsavers glasses, except for SSavers men's frames which do last.

Go for it - makes such a difference.

I usually get mine on BOGOF from specsavers - you can usually choose any of the frames or they have a few styles that are just sunglasses. I had some of the Gok Wan frames turned into sunglasses.

Dolce and Gabbana (sp?) have a good selection of larger sunnies, they were about 150 but I live in them so worth investment.

i hate my prescription sunglasses. they are similar to what they wear in topgun they're mirrored and everything

apparently these were my only option as my lenses need to be slightly curved. i couldnt even get the option of having a fancy frame

hijacking i know (sorry) but i wish there was more options out there

I too hanker after large sunglasses but even with the most expensive lense package I am still restricted to lens diameter because I'm so shortsighted.
I have ordered a pair of aviators that worked out at £89.

Asda opticians do great offers, you could get two pairs for around £100, one of which could be sunglasses.

I got some for £19 from glassesdirect last year. I chose huge frames and then got a graduated tint on them

I've just bought RayBan Jackie Ohh's online for less than £100 and had them glazed with my (straightforward) prescription lenses by my local optician for £60. Am loving them

What prescription are you? I'm a dispenser in an opticians, if you have quite a strong prescription, large sunglasses aren't really going to work, due to thickness issues. You can get a higher index lens (thinner) but these don't tint very well. Can I just say as well, that the lenses are the same price whatever the size of the frame, unless you want thinner lenses made up.

I got a pair of Ted Baker jobbies from Vision Express a few years ago- they're pretty good, currently have my eyes on these as well! You could get them a bit cheaper online from glasses direct but I'd be reticent as I like to see what they're like on my tiny face before I commit to spending c.£100.

They aren't terribly strong, but I have to wear them all the time. I have a really small face and features too. I'll pop into boots and ask what my prescription is. I might be due another check-up soon too.
