Do you wear socks with your canvas shoes?

In light of the 'socks are uncool' thread, do you wear socks with your canvas shoes (converse or similar) or do you have bare feet?

I'm thinking socks would be more comfy and less skanky but what about when I wear my canvas shoes with a skirt or shorts? I can't wear socks with them then can I?

OP posts:

socks if with jeans, otherwise barefoot. Cannot abide trainer socks. They look ridiculous and irritate me.

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 01/06/2013 11:15

I wear trainer socks, if not my trainers hurt my feet.

wallpaperaddict · 01/06/2013 11:19

I wear shoe liners rather than trainer socks. You can't see them as they don't stick out awkwardly like trainer socks do. Usually buy nude colour. Can't wear no socks as all shoes seem to rub my very boney feet in one place or another!

foxysocks · 01/06/2013 11:20

trainer socks. I love socks (foxy socks, natch) and usually use footcream in the morning so they are necessary.

ComradeJing · 01/06/2013 11:54

I have to wear socks otherwise my feet stink get cut to ribbons.

KikeriFreedomCastle · 01/06/2013 11:55

I wear liners if they can be completely hidden from view, otherwise barefoot.

lljkk · 01/06/2013 11:58

Your problem is mine, OP. After nearly an hour of foot-watching the other day (hence my other thread):

I would say about 20% of women wore some kind of sock, usually those ridiculous slip-down-instantly trainer socks, with trainer-style canvas shoes. One gal had mini sheer socks (like tights, almost invisible), another fudge.

You can get away with clearly visible very bright colourful socks IF they coordinate very well with rest of your outfit, and still only just poke out of the shoe (maybe 0.5-1 inch visible).

This country is obsessed with feet, I tell ya'.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/06/2013 16:09

Bare foot. Trainer liners are all too big for me and show and slip around inside the shoes. I might try some nude shoe liner things though, as I can manage a couple of hours barefoot but not sure I could last all day.

PenelopePipPop · 01/06/2013 21:02

Bare foot but agree it is skanky. I'd never wear my canvas shoes on consecutive days so they have plenty of tme to err dry out, and I waft a bit of shoe freshening spray in them if I remember (unlikely) when we get home.

But I can't find a sock solution that doesn't look weird and am too vain to look weird.

hugoagogo · 01/06/2013 21:10

I wear ankle socks with mine, but you would be unlikely to see them as I always wear full length straight legs trews.

No socks would be rank bleughel.

When I see someone that seems to be wearing no socks, I convince myself they are wearing shoe liners. [and relax]

Same with jumpers-you all have vests underneath-no?

cafecito · 02/06/2013 00:40

yuck at no socks

I wear socks. Usually trainer sock/ shoe liner things. I found some decent ones in muji that don't do that weird thing and shrivel off your foot. The other day I was in a hurry and didn't need to look presentable so just wore full on visible socks with hearts all over them Hmm

Startail · 02/06/2013 00:51

socks and long trousers and trainer liners and cropped trousers, I can stand no socks for exactly 5 seconds, unless I'm wesring leather, good fabric lined sandals.

Startail · 02/06/2013 00:52

weasering is clearly not a word

SundaySimmons · 02/06/2013 07:55

I don't like bare feet in this type of footwear but I tip a load of talc in them and I always wear a foot balm so that my feet don't get rubbed. Talc is easily hoovered out at the end of the day.

Nehru · 02/06/2013 08:18

No socks you weirdos.

Socks look dire

xTillyx · 02/06/2013 09:46

Shoe liners, you can't see them at all. Couldn't wear bare feet with Converse I'd feel vile. Will only wear bare feet with shoes if they're heels on a night out or sandals.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/06/2013 12:49

I have insoles for shoes with no socks and change them whenIcanbebothered regularly. Anyway, my feet are not that bad!

QuinionsRainbow · 02/06/2013 14:47

Ordinary socks with full-length trousers, jeans etc.
Trainer socks with shorts, skirts, dresses

I save bare feet for sandals and for hugoagogo, I don't usually wear a vest under a jumper.

sjuperyoni · 02/06/2013 15:00

I usually go bare, luckily i don't have pongy feet but whilst i'm uncomfortably pregnant i've been wearing trainer socks if they are appropriate for the outfit i.e shorts ok dresses not. Otherwise i wear super comfy flip flops.

Skinheadmermaid · 02/06/2013 18:09

Trainer socks from Asda don't slip down, it's a sock miracle!
I wear trainer socks with my trainers, i tuck the sock down so its below the ankle bone.
I always wear tights with dresses so don't have to worry about the whole barefoot/sock dilemma.
You could wear very thin tights or pop socks? Or hold ups!

ThatLightbulbMoment · 02/06/2013 18:13

I don't own any socks. I have ishoos with socks...

I wear converse all the time though Smile

2kidsintow · 02/06/2013 18:25

Normal socks if the canvas shoes go quite far up my foot and if I'm wearing long trousers to hide said socks.

Shoe liner thingies (that require much repositioning through the day) if wearing with leggings or cropped trousers.

No socks sometimes, but that usually ends up rubbed feet and smelly shoes.

bjh38 · 30/12/2013 00:25

I agree with the comment made by ellesabe that if a women is wearing a dress or skirt canvas sneakers do look a lot better without socks the actually look really cute what do other people think?
