Would you buy a designer bag from Ebay?

And if so, what would you do to reduce the risk of it being fake or being ripped off???

Definitely not! I suppose you could get lucky but there are so many fakes around.

If it seems like a fabulous bargain, it probably is!

Which make?

Pinkflipflop · 31/05/2013 20:32

Is a fake, that is!

Not a high end designer bag but a brand such as Hobbs, LK Bennett etc.

I've recently sold a couple of genuine bags on there myself so there are real items out there - I guess it's just a question of being able to spot them!

Yes, I would buy the makes you list!

Good luck Smile

I haven't bought one, but I did sell a Mulberry bag on eBay.

I was (am) naive about the process. But it was a genuine bag, bought from the Mulberry shop on New Bond Street by my DH. I had an almost identical one so this bag sat in a drawer, never used.

I was NOT prepared for the interest of the barrage of e-mails. I didn't have the receipt as the bag was about 8 years old, but I did have the dust bag and the Mulberry tag had a serial number on it - and about 20 people asked for details on that.

Loads of people asked for details on the lining, finish etc. I think there's a lot of paranoia due to fakes on eBay.

The last ten minutes were mental! I would've taken £50, but got £275 iirc. Not as much as it cost but I was happy to let it go and for someone to actually use it...

I wouldn't. If I were buying second hand I'd go to Malleries.com

I've just sold a batch of mid-range designer bags on ebay, all genuine.
So yes, I would buy one, but from a (as far as I can tell) genuine seller - I'd be interested in their feedback, what they've sold before etc. and whether they are guaranteeing that it's authentic.

Yes, I've bought a couple, but have done my research IRL first to know what I'm looking for.

I also go for less-faked brands, IYSWIM, and look for sellers who have a history of selling genuine stuff and where there is a story like "I loved this bag and used it every day but now have a new one" or "I bought this but never use it".

Or look for a known selling agent.

When I sell stuff on eBay myself (always genuine) I always try to give the reason why I'm selling.
