Oh crap I am going to a wedding in 4 weeks and need to lose about 3 stone

Okay, so clearly it's not going to happen is it? Wedding is posh Isle of Wight do, RAF family. Most guests gorgeous young things (groom is DH's godson). I am dreading being a fat sweaty middle aged woman like the ones who came to my wedding when I was a gorgeous 25 year old.

What do I do? What to wear?? I am 5 foot 4, large of norkage. I don't do sleeveless, and have a dread of showing off my varicose veins. Can I do the 50's look or would I just look like mutton? Budget limited!

Thanks

No advice but watching with interest. I'm a bit taller than you but have same arm and boob situation.

I know what you mean about the 50's thing. I don't want to creep into the realm of fancy dress. Grin

Well you're not going to lose that much weight so what size are you now?

Milly similar to Vivien, but cheaper!

Ashoething · 31/05/2013 21:06

Lady vintage London are having 10% off and Collectif are doing 25% off this weekend. Both these companies do retro dresses-not just swing/prom style but also wiggle, tea dresses etc.

You will definitely find something from them-I love their clothes and I am a 5'6 size 16!

teenyweenytadpole · 02/06/2013 13:46

Hi all thanks, yes I'm a size 16. Have been drinking loads of water, focussing on healthy eating so hopefully will feel better energy-wise and skin-wise and maybe shed a few pounds. Also planning mani/pedi and possibly a fake tan, haircut and (home) colour also due. I have a floral dress I bought last year from phase 8 which I could wear at a push, maybe with a shrug or would that look terribly middle aged? This dress here

Wondering about putting a little fitted jacket or something with it?

And what's the current thinking on fascinators/hats please!

Thank you!!

I know you fancy the vintage look. But I'm a similar size to you and I bought a Boden maxi dress. It fits and looks lovely. The length is spot on. Fling on a little cardigan (short sleeve) and you would look lovely.

I bought a pair of control knickers and they worked well.

tethersend · 02/06/2013 15:20

Yes, that dress you linked to would look terribly middle aged Grin

If you like the fifties look, I'd go for something Hepburn-esque like this. Or possibly this.

Or go for a different look, I've been recommending this dress all over the place. It would look great with heels and clutch.

Also love this one.

And this

ThreeDudesOnABus · 02/06/2013 16:05

A little jacket and a fascinator? A shrug? Fuck that, why not just go straight to Edinburgh Wool and order something from the Farmers Wives Collections?

Listen to Tethersend - she knows her frocks - that Mary Portas twist looks like Viv Westwood's Anglomania.

scripsi · 02/06/2013 16:19

My neighbour is exactly the same size/height as you. She has the mary portas/house of fraser dress and it is amazing! Really modern and flattering.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 02/06/2013 16:25

That Mary Portas dress is truly hideous. The phase 8 one is much better.

Kneedeepindaisies · 02/06/2013 16:27

Oh wow! That first dress is gorgeous. Sorry to hijack but has anyone seen a similar one in a different colour?

tethersend · 02/06/2013 16:37

The red phase eight one?

It comes in green too.

Kneedeepindaisies · 02/06/2013 16:43

Ooh fab. Thank you.

Love the Biba one too. Good for big arm coverage. Smile

happyreindeer · 02/06/2013 18:38

That red phase 8 is stunning. I think you would look great in that and fgs do not wear a fascinator..awful things.

teenyweenytadpole · 03/06/2013 20:24

Thank goodness you are all saying no fascinators, I hate them too, just wondered what the ettiquette was these days! I love that dress too, only prob is I need to cover my elbows (psoriasis) so some kind of sleeve is essential, hence the bolero/jacket issue.

Also and sorry I sound like a fussy cow but I need to wear a bra too. Have never found a strapless to contain my norks.
