What shade of Bobby Brown lipstick should I buy????

Am looking for a shade to wear during the day which is natural looking, so it doesn't really look obvious that I have lippy on, which is like my own lip colour but better, ifyswim. My colouring is brown hair with natural auburn tones, blue eyes and blue undertones to skin - sort of winter colouring. What would you recommend I look at?

If you must wear 'naked' lipstick, please go to a counter (or plenty) and try a load! A 1/4 of a tone here or there or a subtle difference in finish can totally make or break these sorts of things. Damned hard to get right so well worth a trip if needs be.

I wear bobbi brown nude lipstick. It's a very wearable colour but like previous poster I would say try a few at a counter. Not on the back of your hand though. Either use a cotton bud and try them on your lips or apply a nit to your fingertips. You'll get a better idea of the colour that way.

dazzlingdeborahrose · 31/05/2013 06:27

Apply a BIT to your fingertips. Definitely not suggesting you should pick small insects out of people's hair to experiment on. Hmm

I agree, go and try a few at counter. Also bobbi brown offer a great mini make over at no cost, so if you're going anyway you old book in.
Personally I really like sand wash pink as a neural, pinky option.

CaptainWentworth · 31/05/2013 06:57

Agree with everyone else, go and get them to try a few shades on you at the counter. I have similar colouring to you and like Bobbi Brown 'uber pink' lipstick for a polished but not obvious look- its much more subtle than the name suggests!

I like (gloss wise ) Clinique voluptuous violet as a nude. I get lots of comps for it. It's not violet.

VillaVillekulla · 31/05/2013 14:33

I have similar colouring to you and I love Bobbi Brown 'Rose' lipstick. You can smudge a bit on for a natural look or build it for a stronger pink. You might like some of the sheerer formulations (eg. Revlon kip butter) if you want a more natural look.

flippitydoodah · 31/05/2013 18:21

thanks for the advice - agree with the comment about a shade either way can make a huge difference, so will definitely 'try before I buy' and will take advantage of 'mini makeover' as wasn't aware that was available. Difficult to judge from pictures on website which would suit best, but overall the shades available are what I am looking for.

I find that Bobby Brown lipsticks come in lovely shades but last 5 minutes
Pointless

MrsLettuce · 31/05/2013 18:44

MAC is also well worth a look for that sort of shade. Have good staying power on their own and amazing staying power with their lip primer under (as long as you wait for it to get tacky before you apply).

flippitydoodah · 31/05/2013 18:45

Early - what would you recommend instead then to get that 'natural' look I am after, as I don't want something with no staying power!

Flippi I wish I knew!!!!! All I can tell you is that I bought Bobby Browns Pale Pink lipstick which is a lovely natural shade but doesn't have any staying power whatsoever!! It was £18 or something silly like that.

I am going to try Superdrug's MUA lipstick in Shade 9 as soon as it is back in stock. At £1 per lipstick I figured I can't go wrong!

SammySockMonster · 31/05/2013 20:09

i have similar colouring and would rec MAC 'cosmo' lipstick- it's a rosy pink which almost exactly matches my actual lip colour, just evens it out and gives a very slight sheen (it's not shimmery or glittery though) :)

GeorginaWorsley · 31/05/2013 20:52

I use Nude,Brown or Roseberry.
Find Nude and Roseberry pretty long lasting, tbh

bella65 · 31/05/2013 21:14

They make my lips sting. I have had sandwash pink and pale pink, and a couple of the creamy semi lipsticks- think it was Crystal Pink.
I'd never go by the website- the colours are not accurate at all. I have to say I think they are overrated- the lipsticks are quite drying IMO.

flippitydoodah · 31/05/2013 22:57

Sounds like I will have to visit MAC counter too - not keen on the idea of the Bobby Brown ones being drying or not lasting long as well as looking at some of the other brands........... could be a long, long day.

Laura Mercia does nice neutral shades as does Stila and they are not drying. I love BB Sandwash Pink but it is too dry for me.

duracellbatterybunny · 01/06/2013 13:35

Big Bobbi Brown lipstick fan - love Slopes and Italian Rose, Nude sometimes.

DameDoom · 02/06/2013 01:42

MrsLettuce gave excellent advice - tone is all; it needs to match your own lips. The counter girls are all trained make-up artists and can really help you. I find they have excellent staying power.

SundaySimmons · 02/06/2013 07:51

For the the last 35 years plus I have bought lipsticks from every brand going and from all price ranges! I discovered the cheaper than chips brand NYX last year and I cannot fault them for colour, long lasting, non drying and I get asked all the time avout what colour I'm wearing!

Their only fault is their own colour swatches are unrealistic. I see a shade that looks good then I google it to see what it looks like on bloggers reviews.

They do lipsticks and lip creams and I cannot fault them, so much so that I have stopped buying Clinique, Dior, YSL etc lipsticks at the moment because I am so enamoured with NYX. And my bank balance is a lot healthier!

The lip creams are my favourite, especially the xtreme ones. I'm not a Fan of Bobbi Brown lipsticks as they are drying on me and not particularly long lasting.
