Are the benefits of using a pure silk pillowcase ^really^ worth the small fortune they cost?

I've heard good things but maybe it's just hype. Hard to tell.

My skin is dry. Arid given half a chance. What with that and cracking on towards 40 I can do with all the help I can get.

There seem to be plenty of affordable satin ones about but i fear they'd just be a waste of cash when it comes down to it. Right? I can't afford to waste money on cheap crap IYSWIM.

Anyone got one?

I bought one of these www.beautybay.com/accessories/silkskin/g/pillowcase/

To be honest I'm not seeing any benefit so far. I bought it because I used to wake up with a crease down the side of my face from side sleeping, and I thought the silk would stop that happening. It still happens!

JazzDalek · 29/05/2013 21:18

I bought one because I'm a sucker for things like that.

It was nice but I can't say it "did" anything - my hair and skin didn't change in any way, for good or ill. But, to be fair, I only used it for a few weeks, my skin is pretty good anyway, and my hair is beyond help.

It's worth a shot. It is nice to sleep on, especially in warm weather. I'd kit the whole bed out in silk if I had a lottery win.

I bought mine on Ebay for £17 or so, from a link on here, so not too expensive, really.

It does stop my face from getting creased, but it's also good for my hair. It doesn't get anywhere near as tangled overnight. Also, it's nice to turn it over because it's always super cool on the other side.

I wake up in the night feeling like the side of my face I've been lyig on is utterly dessicated. 'orrible.

Ooh and ebay, of course!

Id say yes it's well worth it. Have had mine for years. Have got a cheap eBay one and an expensive one and they both do the same job. Have tried a normal pillowcase on the odd occasion, just to check the difference and I always wake up with a crease in my face. Never happens with a silk one.

greensmoothiegoddess · 29/05/2013 21:56

I love mine. Mine was silly money...a lovely black one from Selfridges.

But my face still creases, my hair gets tousled and it has the usual warmness of pillows. Never mind!

Corygal · 29/05/2013 22:11

I've just given 2 away as they did nowt. But a silk duvet cover... bliss, partic in this 'changeable' weather.

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/05/2013 22:14

I really like mine, no more pillow creases on my face.

MrsLettuce · 30/05/2013 10:03

Thanks all, I'm very tempted by the prices on ebay.

I fancy black too. I guess I need two really though don;t I?

Yes, plus mine takes in dye because its cream so blacks a more sensible colour.

MrsLettuce · 30/05/2013 11:33

Good point. I was thinking more about drukenly imperfectly removed eyemake up ruining it, but yes, that'd be a right pain.

Well, finally they're here! Time will tell if they were worth it Flowers

Have used it for two nights now and I'm well impressed - my skin doesn't feel half so striped of moisture in the morning as it usually does! Hair seems less exploded too, but my hair is straight and reasonably shiny anyway so it's hard to judge.

THe sound of the silk under my head took a bit of getting used to the first night, kept me awake a bit but I'm an extremely neurotic sleeper. Probably wouldn't bother most people.

Is very nice not to wake up with my skin feeling so horribly dehydrated though. Brilliant. Well worth it IMO.

(Oh, it was the cheapo ebay ones I got - delay in arrival was down to me rather than the seller)
